Can't say the same for http://www.flickr.com/photos/awiseacre/174179592/ which once glowed with a lovely pale blue neon. Total demo of all its projections. Townsend and Colo...

It amazes me that such an important building in the heart of the Historic District can be bastardized so. I mean, this is 2010, not 1970. We are supposed to know better. Right? According to the rendering, there's going to be the removal of a bevy of significant architectural features. But on the sub...

Santa Barbara Neon

Ladies and Gentlemen, ninety miles north of Los Angeles there's a sleepy little burg called "Santa Barbara" you might've hearda. Santa Barbara, being a tourist attraction from the time of the Chumash, was of course a groovy haven for neon signs, and now there's a site that discusses all th...

Here's something I found in my collection, Crown Car Wash on Pico as pictured near the start of this thread, and it's spot-on what you say about design trends; Imperial in Inglewood and Crown are practically twins (as seen in Roadside's postcard of course, in our world, they've lopped off poor Imper...

On my one excursion to Miami, FLA many a year ago, I screamed "what is that ?!" and forced us to drive to the concrete behemoth where I ran about, despite warnings that I would be eaten by sherm-smoking psychopaths that lurked within. But I lived, and with perseverance and luck, so shall i...

2010 World Monuments Fund list

The new list of monuments threatened by neglect, vandalism, disaster and conflict is pretty shocking -- especially in America. Of 93 sites on the list, 16 are 20th century, including Guadi's Temple Expiatori (which one can argue is 19thc, but you know what I mean). http://www.wmf.org/watch/project-m...

I'm sure the folks at Little, and the Schwab family, are very nice people. But come on. El Super is on the march... http://articles.latimes.com/2008/aug/23/b...
