Yup, it' s maple with a "spice" finish. :) I have 3 huskies, and their room has a slate floor. Well, I don't think it's natural slate. It's more like ceramic made to look like slate. But it cleans really easily. Giving them their own room has helped cut down on the hair and smell in the re...

Oh well! I think they're pretty.

I agree with Stephen. Individual items need room to "breathe" so you can appreciate them. When you put too many together, your eye doesn't know where to stop. It definitely, imo, looks better without the rug. I love the rug, though, and hope you can find a good place for it elsewhere. Just...

That's a relief. I think when the weather clears up I'm going to get up there with a ladder and try to get a better idea of what the issue is. Thank you!

Membrane roof & gutters?

We have a flat roof in Michigan. Genius, right? It has a membrane roof, and not really a proper gutter system... it just has places where there's a hole in the flat roof that feeds down into the drainpipe. At least one of those drainpipes has a leak or joint in it that is causing it to leak inside t...

I agree on the Tuscany thing - and ten years from now people are going to look at the tuscany kitchens and go "Wow, those look so dated!" We did decide on concrete countertops in the kitchen, so I'm hoping that will look appropriate. But I have two bathrooms to remodel from scratch, and I'...

Question on Materials - Synthetic vs. Natural

I know Synthetic materials are true to the period, but what if you just plain don't like them? We love wood and wood grains, and natural stone... you couldn't pay my husband to have formica in the house! How can you reconcile the period with using natural materials? Also, how do glass blocks fit in?...

I love that photo too! Unfortunately the original is only about 2 inches by 3 inches. My neighbor knows a former owner, and I'm hoping he'll have some photos I can copy to blow up and hang! Thanks for everyone's comments, I know I have a lot more reading to do and decisions to make. Especially since...

We found bizarre wallpaper when we tore down a termite-infested wall. Pink and blue flowers, with GOLD SPECKLES! It was horrible!

Hello after a long absence!! *pic heavy*

:) I just read thru the list of 100 worst things to do to your MCM home and was glad to see I've only fallen victim to maybe 3. But it did head me off from the crown molding trend! So thank you for that! Since I last posted we did replace the porch and bedroom windows with grid windows, but in my de...

Wow someone revived my 2 year old thread!! We've made so many changes -- we're putting in a new kitchen this month too. I will post pics soon. We did wind up replacing the front door, porch windows, and front bedroom windows, so the whole front looks different. I also painted the white trim all tan ...

Hoo, boy, that carpet/tile thing sounds labor intensive. Would go with the brick segueing into concrete block, though. I took it to Kinko's and got a good scan, and some blowups. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid156/p5256059f27b6dcca9cebfa7f2dcf8321/f53fb9ba.jpg Upon further investigation, a...

Will do, sir. I know we totally threadjacked that flooring thread. I'm going to buy a magnifying glass tomorrow and have a shot at the original photo. Hopefully that will help some. One thing I am wondering is with the white verticals... although I originally thought it was wood, I think they MAY be...
