prop taxes-ouch

we have no income taxes in tx so property taxes are high. with RE prices going up steeply many folks are finding it hard to keep their home that was once cheap and on the edge of the city. with growth many of those neighborhoods that were once far are now considered central. I think we're paying 15k...

smoke gets in the eyes

we love the fire on chilly eves. I have a nice pit that was made from the brake drum off an 18 wheeler. I welded on some short legs, closed off some of the bottom and put a strip of perforated stainless steel around the top to give it just a bit more height. the problem was that the smoke was always...

our floor

for our home we opted for a 3 step diamond grind and will finish the floors w/ a sealer. this is more maintenance in the end as I'll have periodic scratches and will need to reseal every year. the cost was 2.50 a sq ft. they also offered a 6 step concrete polish that would have eliminated the need f...

I recently saw a MCM railing in shreveport and have based my design on it. just posted a blog entry a/b my rails. making them myself w/ a good deal of help from a metal working friend. commercial door

a commercial door should not be THAT expensive. I sourced an 8 ft tall metal door and door frame with three windows for our new home and it was like....$600 or so. it would've been cheaper if the door was wood, shorter and had no glass. we bought wood door to use durring construction and that was $8...

you can check with the utility company and request bill history for the past two years or so. that will tell you how much the PO spent, but maybe they enjoyed a hot and balmy indoor climate and seldom used the a/c. I'd not worry too much a/b resale in ar. just b/c you don't see that much moder there does not necessarily indicate that there aren't folks there who would loveto live in such a home. and when given the option to acquire something special and out of the norm, people will often pay more. so it might ...
