The house on Stonehill has good views but no pool, needed LOTS of work and was a mile further from Sunset which is important to many. Also not sure if Stonehill was landmarked but certain that the Mill's Act contract was not in place.

When I restored a Schindler in Sherman Oaks (1938) we tried to find the same replacement hardware. No luck. We ended up machine shopping them for $300 or so a piece. Very expensive. Good luck.

I believe this was a commission that ended up not being in RM's archives. It was a project executed by Schindler and Clyde Chase (who was also the contractor on Kings Road).

It has been remodeled to the point of being unrecognizable. It is filmed briefly in the German film Schindler's Hausen.
Hope that helps.

Hi.
It's actually a sink not a drinking fountain.
How was a psychiatrist and he needed to wash his hands between clients.
Nutty perhaps, but on RMS' plan.

Hello all. I don't have pictures but I have been informed that RM Schindler's 1935 Kaun Residence is being sold as a tear-down for $1.4 million. Bay area modernists... Can you help?

Hey everyone. I know this is a touchy subject but please don't beat up on Kelly Lynch. She does a lot for preservation. We should all do as much as we can. Just my 2 cents.

Actually, SDR, those colors are a perfect match for the last layer of integral plaster. The interior walls and concrete and some wood ceilings and walls had many, many layers of paint. This was a two year cosmetic restoration. As far as "over-restoring" that stings a bit. But I expect as m...

Just drove by this today. Does anyone know what is going on? The sign say "Quiet Auction". I have never heard this term before. I am concerned this is being marketed as a tear down and as we all learn, sometimes too late, this can in fact happen overnight even if it is a landmarked buildin...

According to Gebhard's Architectural Drawing's Of Schindler Volume 2, the Duplex is Schindler's work. The drawing dates November of 1922. Total of 7 sheets of drawings.
It is possible (and likely) that the building has been heavily remodeled.

The house was originally sited on three lots with a badmitten (sp?) court, flower garden, and "pond". We decided with the single lot that we were left with to put the koi pond in. We kept it fairly rustic looking, didn't want it to end up looking slick. As you all probably know, RMS was NO...
