Remodeling my Woodland West Home

I am finally remodeling my Woodland West home. I am adding about 250 sq feet, adding a 3/4 bath and hall and expanding the kitchen and foyer. One thing that I am doing that I have not seen done before is that I am raising the foyer ceiling height to be the same as the kitchen. It makes a huge differ...

Does anyone know where I can get an MCM style mailbox (Post & Mount) either locally (San Fernando Valley, CA) or online?

Great topic.. I don’t believe modernism has failed but has simply evolved. It has always been a specialized, niche market. Even when mid-century homes were built in the 50’s & 60’s, only a small percentage were built in the modernist style we know today. As for the reason why this style of...

Do homes designed by a famous architect(s) sell for more $$?

I was just reading the other day that there are many homes designed by perhaps the most famous American architect (Frank Lloyd Wright) that have trouble selling in the marketplace because of their “limitedâ€￾ appeal to general public. Is this also the case for MCM designed homes? Let’s face itâ€...

If I remember correctly, those homes are in neighboring Tarzana and are different from WW homes. The exterior is similar to WW but the inside is a bit different. Also, these homes are generally around 3000 sq feet and bigger. The biggest original WW home is no more than 2600/2700 sq feet. And yes, t...

Good point on reinvesting in the house… Yeah, prices are still escalating despite all the talk of an imminent bubble. The so-called real estate experts have been predicting a bubble for at least three years now. I know of two WW homes within a couple of blocks of me that sold in late April-2005. T...

Thanks for sharing your photos

Very Cool looking kitchen. Looks like it cost you a pretty penny.

I like the tile work and the extended soffit. Also, that hood looks great. Who makes it? What type of countertop did you install? I could not tell from the pics.

If you do decide on keeping the wall that separates the kitchen and dining/family room (to maintain the wall and cabinet space), one thing you may want to consider is removing only a small part of the wall (probably around 3 feet in width) that would normally be occupied by a two door upper cabinet....

Re: WW Kitchen Remodel

Any WW owners know if their exterior walls are insulated? I was told that my house was one of the model homes and that the sales office was located in my garage (which was wood-paneled and floored with linoleum), so I guess it is possible that the builders pulled a fast one and just threw the house...

Based on the attached link and story, the interior used in the filming appears to be a Woodland West home (fireplace reference). The general layout of the interior as well as the backyard shots look very similar to my WW house. However, I believe the house exterior used in the film was not a Woodlan...

Re: Woodland West

[quote="ValleyModern"]I thought that the homes south of ventura were called "Woodland South." I know that a lot of Realtors refer to them as such, and the homes around Valley Circle as "Woodland West." . Yes, “Woodland Southâ€￾ is used by some realtors to refer to basically the same floo...

Essentially, the kitchen wall separating the living room and kitchen and was eliminated. First of all I do want to make a correction to my post yesterday. Hello Woodland West Neighbor

My wife and I moved into a Woodland West home about 7 years ago, two blocks West of Valley Circle, near El Camino Real HS. We both loved the floor plan and immediately decided, that was the kind of house we wanted. In fact, it was really the only floor plan that we both could really agree on. To ans...
