This is pretty cool...but I believe a major hurdle in the past was that I think you need to get Postmaster General approval for any mailboxes and it wasn't exactly an easy or transparent process. Atomic Ranch had an article in their Fall 2013 issue with photos of Scott Oglevie's mailboxes that are o...

Actually, it is a SEPARATE, permitted structure. So you don't give up the garage space. It's not perfect and it's not exactly what I would do, but I feel like this isn't a bastardization of the home and it's nice to see someone keep the good stuff for once and know how to emphasize the great inheren...

Fullerton, CA - Nicest Palmer and Krisel Remodel $449k

This home isn't perfect but it's the nicest remodels I've seen in this neighborhood and the renovator did a good job, even on things under the surface (like replacing the roof and HVAC). The Fullerton P&Ks are awesome for two big reasons: 1. They are in the prestigious Troy HS area and 2. they h...

Hi Stephen--Not that tract--east of there in the Willow Park neighborhood. I've only shown one house in there but I like the neighborhood and the designs. I don't know who built them but I think it *might* Alexander. The plans have some similarities to P&K plans, but the windows, doors, and som...

Re: Anaheim House History

Welcome! Is your home by chance located near Barton Park? Hi--first timer here-- I was raised in an MCM in La Habra CA (just south of Whittier Blvd, just west of Beach for those familiar with the tract) and my husband and I have recently purchased our very own MCM just northwest of Disneyland. It's ...

This house is pretty spectacular. A. Quincy Jones is definitely among my Top 5 for architects. Anyhow, amazing some of the awful furniture in a house that sold for $6.625M.

Especially out here in California, it is very much overlooked. Good landscaping really makes the house, especially in homes with a lot of glass looking to the outdoors. I totally agree 150% This is always neglected just look at ALL the mags. The closest you can get is the landscape photo gallary in ...

Absolutely correct on all counts, Stephen! Buyers who want a move-in-ready home with all the bells and whistles pay a HUGE premium over folks who don't mind living in a project home for a bit, or who can't handle the thought of managing a construction project on their own. I remember the CM project...

$500k for a 2-bed, 1-bath, 1000 square foot flip? Seriously. Those Better Shelter Craftsman remodels sell fast, and pretty much always in multiple offers. I know...I've got a buyer who's trying to get one. I wouldn't want one myself, but I'll admit some of those homes are pretty slick. That's the p...

Pomona, CA - Good condition, mostly original Cliff May

I just came across this place. It has the original doors and windows and looks to be in pretty good condition. Don't let the "Pomona" scare you, this is in Westmont, right down the street from the best elementary school in the city. You can literally throw a football to Phillips Ranch, whe...

I went by this home over the weekend and I think it's a great option for Orange County mid-century lovers on a budget. These Palmer & Krisel homes are located in many cities in North Orange County. If that area works for you, they offer a bit of a sampling of all the cool mid-century features: g...

Was poking around on Stephen's site (http://www.ocmodhomes.com/) and was surprised this had not yet been posted here: I can't recall ever seeing the insides of a decent example of floorplan #3215, pretty cool; really dig the indoor/outdoor planting area. Stephen, is there any way to get some higher...

Fullerton, CA - A. Quincy Jones (needs help)

If you've hung around these forums for a while, you've undoubtedly come across A. Quincy Jones' Crestwood development in Los Angeles. Awesome, modest-sized, efficiently-designed home overlooking Los Angeles. Only one problem...the price. Here's a home that offers many similarities in design, but in ...

Agreed there. Really, there's no excuse for any agent to have awful pictures on any listing, and yet I see them all the time. As far as photo size, the MLS is really where the bottleneck lies. I can upload a 3000 pixel-wide photo and it'll resize down to 600-800 pixels. Redfin et al. import their p...

Anaheim, CA - Frematic Home

These are the coolest homes in Orange County that nobody knows about. They were developed by Ross Cortese (of Cliff May Rancho and Rossmoor fame) and designed by a young architect who had worked under A. Quincy Jones. This one is VERY original and that makes it definitely one worth saving. As an add...

good potential It really is. This is a chance to end up in Tustin < $400k, and have a great house. The home has a couple of negatives, but I think they can be mitigated. With the renovation financing out there, an opportunity like this is even open to first-time homebuyers with low downpayments.

Here's the deal. This house is rough...but retains many key elements. I think that bought right, someone could make it a dream home and have less than $400k in it.
