Our mid-mod vacation rental
This year we rented a part of an oceanfront house that was built as a single family home in 1961 (by Jacksonville architect: Taylor Hardwick). It was converted into three condos in 1979. We mostly rented it because of the architecture, and today the owner, knowing this, provided us with original pho...

We installed an IKEA kitchen with Abstract light grey fronts in 1996 and used it more than 10 years. When we sold it, it still looked like new. http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/41/1063141/400_6135386139626435.jpg http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/41/1063141/400_3861326530623337.jpg http...

I was at Ikea tonight (a jammed freeway and the lure of a $6.00 salmon dinner) For a budget, I liked a counter they may even stock. It was plain formica but thick, like 1 1/4 or so with a multi layer plywood edge. This one? http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/41/1063141/1280_3365353536376430.jp...

Two years later I have to dig up this thread because I found out about the architect of the first house - Darrell F. Fleeger. He built it for his family in 1962. It is for sale again and listed with architectureforsale for $900,000. Sales history on Zillow says 01/12/2004: $465,000 06/10/2003: $403,...

I always thought some of the facade that was still standing (and was so typical for the WTC) should have been kept for the on-site memorial. But that was probably not feasible plus nobody thought about it anyway in the aftermath of the desaster. Until this day I'm not able to watch relatively low fl...

Updating a House of Tomorrow - in the NYT
By EVE M. KAHN Published: June 28, 2007 ATLANTA IN 2005, when Theodore and Susan Pound first saw the house they would end up buying in the Buckhead neighborhood here, it had been for sale for a year, even as properties around it sold within weeks. The Atlanta market was hot, at least for traditional...

Re: So
Is there any interest generated by your work by any other houses on that street. It was really sad to see so many muddled beyond recognition, last time I drove by there. Do the neighbors think 'what the h*** is this guy doing or are they thinkin hey maybe I can do something like that. Does anyone o...

please don't pop my bubble - i'd like to think there is a design conciousess country somewhere in the world :) I'd say Denmark definitely is a design conscious country. There's good design in public almost everywhere. But, unfortunately, the private taste is a different matter as you can see in the...

Thanks for the report and the wonderful photos. I’m from northern Germany where many people spend their summer vacations in one of the Scandinavian countries. I know Stockholm, not Helsinki, and my DH is from Copenhagen, so I visited the city quite often during the last 20+ years, and I love it. W...
