My mistake... sorry... well, I am preserving my 1959 ranch. Does that help? OK... maybe not.

Plain slab doors

Why oh why is it so hard to find plain slab doors? No leaded glass, no panels, no details, no nothing. Wood - solid - slab. That's it!?

Any ideas? I'm in TX.

Dreadful

It kills me every time I drive by that house... having known Floyd personally, I know he was proud of the design. He won a design award from Practical Builder Magazine for that particular house - it was in decent shape until these owners butchered it. Sad sad sad...

Fre House (Frey II)

It's been a while since we visited but I just posted a little bit on our travel blog regarding our tour of Frey II. It may be open to the public now for all I know but I've included a couple of pictures of our visit. It is one cool little house. http://travelfix.blogspot.com/ Mind you, I'm not an ar...

So funny... we were just talking about Guanajato today at work. One of my coworkers had just returned from San Miguel De Allende and was raving about the town. We then started talking about how incredible Guanajato is supposed to be. Yup - it's definitely on our "list"

My new travel blog

I'm launching a travel blog so I can share my thoughts, ideas, ramblings, tips, suggestions, etc. about travel. As you can imagine, I'll occasionally include tips here and there about architecture and MCM sights. I'm just getting started so any suggestions/comments would be appreciated. I don't know...

We love the picture of the living/breakfast room. Thank you!!! Of course, since you visited, we started working on the front room and filling it with more modern pieces. We also redid the bathroom to be more MCM-friendly... from a terrible pink bathroom with hideous wallpaper and old sheet linoleum ...

Jim - consider that you always have an invitation to return to Houston and we'll be glad to introduce you to other houses in the city. With enough time, we can get Stephen Fox, noted historian, to give you an astounding driving tour of Houston.

The rear is beautiful - all glass (as you can see in the pictures). Some of the other houses they photographed in the Bend should appear in an Atomic Ranch book in 2006.

Thanks for the tip although their prices are a bit *yikes* steep. I do agree that Tauck has a good reputation, though.

We actually landed tickets - I'm going to pick them up tomorrow. Can't wait...

One thing we can agree on... these scalpers are ridiculous. I think they'll take a bath once a ton of alumni tickets hit the market in a week.

Funny... I keep hearing people point this out. To me, it makes complete sense to continue voting USC #1 until they lose. There's no issue there... let the score determine the final rankings. Besides, I'd say that's a great way to motivate the team by having Mack tell his players to prove him wrong. ...

First off, the Texas-Duke game has everything to do with the Rose Bowl and plays a big factor in the match-up. The Big XII may be having a down year but lets not forget that this past bowl season, the Big XII's number 4 team stomped the vaunted Cal Golden Bears. This was the team that was supposed t...

Rose Bowl Tickets - any LottaLiving posters???

Well... it is an event and I will certainly take a gander at plenty of mid-century architecture while in town. So... I may as well ask, anyone have any connections to Rose Bowl tickets ? :P

As this old thread makes it clear, my wife and I stayed at the Desert Star on three different occasions (trips in 2003, 2004 and early 2005). The owners sold the hotel and moved to Costa Rica to run a place called El Sueno Tropical. Well, if you go to the original web page, the Hope Springs Resort i...

Hollyhock House & mystery house?

My wife and I went out to visit LA this past weekend for a quick trip out to the west coast. We just needed a bit of a break and we figured the July 4th weekend was a perfect time to visit. Besides heading to Malibu, hitting the occasional bar and generally enjoying the area, we made it a point to s...
