Fantastic video, thanks for sharing. I have a handful of fiber optic lights that were removed from a MCM in Michigan belonging to the state. It was the Governor's house at the time, I think it's vacant now as the new governor chose to continue living in squalor somewhere farther away. During reconst...

Why didn't I think of using a passage set, that's smart. Unfortunately, it's a bit late now. But, then again, I could use the one intended for the front door on a different door. I ordered the Vedani set from Kwikset, and installed them on one door already, but there was a longer lead time on the ne...

I've been using a lot of Tapcons in the garage, and I used a couple in the mortar in the kitchen. I ordered a handful of the large clips, should work by covering two bricks at a time. Same situation as you, will mostly use them for stockings. I found a hole in the mortar really close to where I was ...

I found that if I buy the largest clips, I can span two bricks and hang pictures that way. I have just one painting I want to hang on the brick wall, so it's not going to break the piggy bank to buy a few clips. I just didn't want to drill holes for it. Is there any other products that work like thi...

Here is the doors, as they are now. I know that the temporary replacement is on upside down, I let my wife put it in, and when I told her she said "does it really matter right now? We don't even have the key for it" and I guess she is right. At least we can open the door now, which is an i...

I am setting up Flickr on my phone now. Meanwhile, how much of a faux pas is it to mix styles? I really prefer levers, but don't want to change all the interior door sets, as they are in good condition and I like the coppery color. I cannot get a new lever in any coppery colors that I have found, so...

Brick Clips for small bricks?

We have a brick wall in our house, and rather than drill holes in the mortar to hang anything, I was looking for Brick Clips that would fit the smaller bricks. These are all 1 1/2" tall, and I have had trouble finding any that are listed for that size. Has anyone come across anything that will ...

It's not the latch that's broken, the rest of the set is.
I wouldn't want to replace it exactly, we don't care for thumb operated door hardware anyway.
The one part we need to find is a newer latch though, this one looks like it's on it's last legs, much like the rest of the hardware was.

The backset appears to be 5 1/8" The brand on the latch is weiser, and there is no indication if the handle parts are the same, but they fit together well, though they don't work. The interior sets are all a coppery color, and in good condition. I love the function and feel of levers, but I hav...

Not much need for a close up picture now, I took the door handle assembly off the door, and found why it wasn't working. It had fallen to pieces inside. Ugh. So, right now, I took the garage entry knob and transferred it. But, I found that the older set had a smaller sized square part. I don't...

What to do about the "thumb latch" entry lockset?

I probably don't have the right terminology, but we recently bought an MCM styled home in Utah, and it has the double front door, where the right side is a dummy, and the left side opens. Our problem is that the latch on the operable door is broken, not to mention it's really worn following decades ...

Well, the wainscot and chair rail is not exactly MCM, but it's your home, you get to decide what goes in, you know? We also bought a bunch of windows with mullion between the glass, but in our defense, we got a killer deal on some really large windows that we were certain were the way to get our add...

And hooray for another one saved! We don't have the same problem here in michigan, thankfully, but there is also far less MCM type architecture as well.

The one by my house is in similar condition, but I don't think they allow tours, sadly. The only problem I had with the house as I saw it was that it was quite dark, even with the huge windows. Well, I would first try to change the color the the brightwork on that fireplace. Try using something that will damage the finish. On purpose, yes. You will have a lot of trouble covering it with another finish due to the heat, but you might be able to get away with sanding it down to rough it up, t...

Inexpensive tile sources?

I have searched and searched, but I know I bookmarked the thread, and cannot find it anymore. DIY metal roof?

I was up on the roof yesterday cutting a hole for a bath vent fan, and while trying to be gentle on the shingles, they cracked and broke up pretty easily. I ended up gluing the bits back on with the tube of tar stuff I used to seal the vent to the roof. It will probably not leak, but it looks like I...
