Mayflower Ballroom?

Does anyone know what's happened to the Mayflower Ballroom on Hindry Ave in Inglewood? I was last there five or six years ago when it could be rented out for dances and special events, but the few references I see online now suggest it's closed.

Chris, you've stirred my hometown civic pride. Here are some Baltimore highlights that come to mind. Offbeat museums: The Great Blacks in Wax Museum (African-American Madame Tussaud's), National Visionary Arts Museum (modern museum of "outsider" artists), Museum of Industry (now home to th...

Baltimore has one remaining great drive-in movie theater: the Bengies. Biggest screen in the USA, or so they claim. Closed in the winter, but you might want to check their web site, see if they have reopened for the season when you're there...

Du-pars, what's with the name?

Is it a bid for class, some form of "de Paris?" Love to know more, if anyone is familiar with the history of the name.

Is Modcom able to take any action on this?

"Hollywoodland" locations

Anyone know where the Googie coffee shop seen a few times is located? I think it was called "Chips" (!) in the film.

Other locations info?

Googie calendar, the lack thereof.

I wonder this every year. Why doesn't someone put out a Googie-themed wall calendar? I found a very poorly-made calendar of diners and drive-ins a few years back, and there are a couple of Route 66 ones every year, but I'm surprised there aren't more with roadside attractions or Googie themes. Or am...

WTD: Googie calendar?

Say there... anybody know where I can find a 2004 appointment book, weekly planner or wall calendar with a Googie theme? With pictures of coffee shops? Or signage? Or tiki? Or roadside Americana in general? A few years ago I managed to track down a very cheaply produced "Classic Drive-Ins" calendar....

I shot a number of scenes for a short film among those concrete animals a few months ago. Found the place via this forum -- many thanks. I'll post when we have a screening. film

It's for a 16mm short I directed, called "Fish Burglars." I'm aiming for the film festival circuit -- or at least the niche audience for films set amidst offbeat playground equipment.

If the short ever screens in L.A., I will let you know!

Hey, just wanted to mention that we ended shooting scenes for the film in the Laguna de San Gabriel section of Vincent Lugo Park in San Gabriel. Many thanks for the suggestions... it's off to the San Gabriel Valley for me. By the way, the best thing I've seen so far is Los Arboles "Rocketship" Park in Torrance. There's a rocket and a lunar lander dating back to the 60s which the neighborhood united to save when they were scheduled for demo i...
