Metro is a new magazine (this is the 2nd issue)..it's kind of like "Time Out" for the Twin Cities area. Yup, it's the U of M area...and the median home price was something like $240K or so. I guess that would make sense if you don't own the property it's on! I think you can get Metro at an...

Brian - why don't you offer 500k for the space house in Galewood? I'll be the owner would take it  seriously, if you guys like the area you should drive around galewood and elmwood park a bit. I think they are both great values in terms of money, and you know there are some pretty cool houses ...

"Scooterheads" ???? I will kick anyone who refers to me as a scooterhead. there's lots of chatter the last several years about the scooter craze. It will be interesting to see if they become a permanent part of our transportation culture, or if they will rot garages like Vespas and Lambret...

hey Chicago People (Nikki and Brian!) Stop Stalking Me! Brian, I want to plant some grasses like you have in your backyard. I love the idea! I've been so busy I haven't had time to check the board! We got to the house and the lawn was dead!! the last owners were nice enough to have it fertili...

very cool ideas. I've never heard of rain chains. saw some on the web after you suggested them. I would love to see pics of them in action, it's hard for me to picture them on a house....more web searches ahead.

Will post additional pics after we arrive late next week. thanks!!

awesome idea...except I'm in Chicago, and had one rainy day in april to actually LOOK at the house and yard. we got some pics, but nothing horribly detailed (because of the freezing cold rain) so I'm not exactly sure what's there, exact measurements, etc. and I won't know until we pull up in the mov...

Futuragirl...you bet I can! I didn't want to come off as presumptuous, thought I would ask for some quickie ideas first. But, heck, if people want to doodle around with my plot (ha! that sounds dirty) I will get it drawn up. will have to wait until I'm actually there though, which won't be until Jul...

built in 1950 :) It's on the cusp of modern, but pretty old skool in flavor...coved plaster ceiling trim, ceramic bathroom with old fashioned fixtures, etc.

This is a toughie for me because I want to really spruce it up and give it some character, but not try to make it something it's not...

Landscaping: How to make this box look less boxlike...

I am moving into a rambler in Minneapolis in less than a month. Since it's summer I want to focus a bit on making the front look a little more modern and less boxy and nondescript. I would LOVE your thoughts on what I can do with landscaping and reconfiguring the existing front: door ideas, steps, h...

I just realized I went blabbing out on the board without posting a proper "introduction"... I currently reside in chicago, but just bought a very non-descript house built in 1950 in Minneapolis, MN...I'll be moving up on july 1, and posting lots of pictures and begging for help with my dec...

parka in chicago in june?! yikes! Most patches is awesome. I have a stack to sew on my rally jacket and parka. My sewing machine is older than my VBA ('58 Singer!). If we get a few of Lotta Living scooter boys and girls on board, we'll have to make a few Lotta Living patches for the rally jackets! ...

Bertoia Bird chair cover??

I just picked up a Bertoia bird chair sans cover for $100.00. (woohoo!)...I've done some internet searches and all the replacement covers I'm finding are over $500...anyone have any ideas for resources for less expensive covers, or alternately anyone have any idea how to make one? I have never seen ...

ok, this is waaaay late, but an idea: buy a leopard print fabric you like, then encase it in clear plastic for protection. won't be quite as hardy as all vinyl, but much better than a fabric slip cover. Just sew the 2 fabrics together as one when making the cover. Use a teflon foot when sewing the v...

hey everyone. I thought I would introduce myself by way of showing my own 60's ride. Here's my 1966 Vespa SS180. Obviously not a classically restored bike, but I love her. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a187/screaminmimi1/208934360_l.jpg I'm currently in Chicago, but moving to Minneaplis at the e...
