Living in TX - a big no

I agree with Jakabedy, TX is no bargain, well Houston anyway, the property tax is a real killer. The home prices may look cheap, but if you want to live in a decent area with good schools you will pay for that in an expensive house with killer taxes in the $8000.00+ a year range. And worse that P Ta...

Hamilton - Go Tabbys

Drunk steel town union Tabby fans at Ivor Wino stadium. The original Tims is in Hamilton on Ottawa St. Hess Village for sure, even more fun when Mac U is in. Try the Gown and Gavel. You should say bye to the big smoke and hello to Stelco/Dofasco smoke. Try going for brunch in Ancaster at The Old Mil...

REO

Most likley what happened as far as price is that when it went to foreclosure no one bought it (97% don't) then the bank technically "buys" it back for that $420, then its a REO, the bank then hopes to get something back, anything back now since there is no other venue to sell it. You coul...

They need to have Holmes on a more serious home renovation channel, it would not work with the trendy hollywood planet green. I am pretty tired of all these "professionals" or "designer/contractors" on lame shows who have no clue. He by far is the best. I really love the fact he ...

Finally, a neo-eclectic torn down to build a contemp mod

For those who don't know, Mike Holmes is a highly skilled and trained Canadian contractor who has his own show called Holmes on Homes. He recently razed a faux chateau and built an efficient contemporary mod. He will be bulding and selling his Holmes Homes in Canada. Check out the link http://holmes...

Ya, I thought I should have taken better photos, the wood is not that light, the outer woods are either walnut / teak or both. There is a band of maple and most likely maple strips between the wider top front boards.

Really appreciate the info, thanks ! In fact we did get two large keys with the piece and all the latches work. One think I forgot to mention, the old gal we purchased this from mentioned it was Danish, I figured she had just read it somewhere as she really did not seem to know about mcm furniture. ...

Can you tell me anything about this entertainment unit ??

Just bought this on Craigslist for $100.00, that's right $100. But have no idea where it came from or who made it, there are no marks I can find anywhere. Its approx 7ft long and 5 1/2ft tall. Made from either walnut or teak or both, possible mahogany interior in the large left upper section behind ...

. Hi Dave, I think I am the only one living in Reno on this forum. Most likely they were real Craftsmans, that is the ring there. The architecture styles are like time rings around the city from the city center, Victorian, Craftsman, 50's ranch / limited MCM, 70's, 80's, McHouse / McMansion.[/quote...

Hmm -- I love them. Here's a postcard a friend and architectural historian sent me years ago. I just found it again. . SDR The two that we saw were of precisely the same style but considerably more affluent/upscale; not quite Gamble House, but on a par with some of the other Greene & Greenes in...

Reno NV - another FLW Prairie style needs saving

I found another FLW Prairie style home here in Reno, unfourtunately the location and lot size makes it a prime teardown canidate to be replaced with a stucco box mcmansion like others on the street, or maybe one of those Craftsmanalized stucco boxes. I have not yet had a chance to go in but but judg...

Had a tour of the Steen Mansion

Well I had a chance to go view the mansion, went with a friend who is interested in purchasing it. All I can say is WOW! The VR tour and photos don't give you the feel of this home. Most of it is still original, unfortunately the current owners made too many trips to Home Depot, how can you improve ...

The agent I refer to call, Irmgard Kenny, has recently seen it, she called me to stop by with her, but I just could not go at that time. Yes I know, ugh, the grainte cliche counter tops. I would have preferred a restovation. but all things considered it remains pretty close to orginal. I do know it is owned by a developer, which is why I am troubled by what may happen.

Charles Steen Mansion, Reno NV. Architect - Charles Mayhew

Wanted to post this one. It absolutely needs to go to a MCM fan. Unfortunately the acreage of the estate is being sold off in parcels. We need someone to purchase this home and save it from any possibilty of tearing it down to build a McMansion. Anyone over there in the SF Bay area interested? Here ...

Thanks guys! I will check out the library for those.

Luther, I know of that house. I wanted to write a little something on my blog about it, but needed some more Mayhew info.
