Re: The Only One

I kinda like is La Vardera's Palo Alto but only if there's a fireplace to it and it needs some linen closets He used to post here but not lately. Yes, I've gotten so busy, managing several blogs on top of my practice and homeplans. I have not been able to keep up here. But I'm glad to see house pla...

too many message boards, too little time :D

When I moved to Philadelphia is 1984 the PSFS building was still an office building and PSFS still occupied the banking floor. I promptly opened up my accounts with the bank that had the best building! It was very cool!

You guys have it right. The cement siding panels come in a variety of widths which give you different exposures (thats the term for the visible spacing of the panels). The biggest names are James Hardie, Cemplank (recently purchased by Hardie), Certainteed, Ashland Davis (purchased by Certainteed in...

Thats it all right. Mine is missing the dust jacket and is in much worse shape. But then again Karen got it for 5.95! Yowsa - they have this for $75! The booktrader is usually more savvy about their titles - she really got a good deal then. There are a few Keck & Keck houses in there. Let me look at...

great old modern house book

I got a great little valentines gift from my honey. She scored a great old book at the BookTrader in Philadelphia. Its worn, the cover is gone off the spine, and the corner has been munched on by a mouse, but its one I've never seen before. Titled "If You Want To Build A House" written by Elizabeth ...

I remember this movie when I was a kid, with Tony Randall, and he and his family volunteer to live in an underwater house. It had that Lost in Space era tech feeling to it. Can't remember the name. Could it have Roddy Mcdowell too? Anyway, I was drawing underwater houses for weeks after that.

Hey, Greg! (Are you snowed in today?) I know stairs of this sort have been built since at least the sixties, but the vertical rods have to be fairly highly tensioned to provide rigidity, don't they. . .? But, I suppose they can do just about anything they need to on a soundstage, no? That's what I ...

Zac has posted the articles he copied here:

http://www.cg-mcc.com/livemodern/magazine.htm

The Fortune article covers a number of prefabricated factory built houses from the era, and the Arch Record article actually gives some technical background on the General Homes panel system.

Zac Anderson has found the issues in his public library and duplicated the articles and...

save an early modern house

This early modern prefab house is for sale - free, for the taking. It must be on a knock-down site and there is an effort underway to save it from the wrecking ball. http://www.historicproperties.com/detail.asp?detail_key=J331Necam001 I am not sure what the nature of the Prefabrication was but it mi...

Tom, you should think about publishing that book via Cafepress.com with correct permissions of course. I thought they recently began offering publising on a one at a time basis. I think you need to create a PDF file of the book in order to do it.
