Exterior Painting, and let's talk downspouts

Six years after moving into our house with its then new paint job, and the paint has reached epic failure. Specifically those areas that receive the most sun exposure. Several undercoats of partially failing paint are to blame, so I'm removing all of the existing layers on the redwood siding (origin...

Danish chair spring strap replacement source?

Is anyone making replacement spring strap supports for Danish style lounge chairs? Not looking for the woven elastic straps that are easy to find, but the long rubber-wrapped springs more typical of brands like Selig. Any sources?? My searches aren't yeilding much. Thanks in advance!

Everyone needs to find a reason to visit the Miller house. I was part of a private tour of it last spring and it is absolutely amazing. Girard's custom furnishings and textiles, Saarinen's giant custom dining table, a killer kitchen with awesome blue cabinets - at least 1000 times more impressive in...

Score! Console speaker cloth is tricky since you usually can't remove it. I had the same issue with one of my radios, which was badly stained and yellowed. I did some research, and some suggested cleaning with peroxide, so I gave it a shot. Of course, test a small area first, but you can spray it on...

New source for mid century style pendant fixtures

Found these great fixtures from an unlikely source - Menards is a mid west chain of home improvement stores. The finish is listed as oil rubbed bronze, but they are actually satin black with gold in person. Nicely made too, and they come with a black ceiling cap. Available by special order from the ...

I worked in the furniture industry for several years, dealing with relatively high end furnishings. We always sold McKay table pads - you can probably order somewhere. They had a decent selection of top and felt bottom colors, and were nicely constructed as well.

Yes, our place is a little less "cutesy flea market clutter" than a lot of the AT tours most of their readers seem to prefer. Overall, though, the comments have been pretty positive. I think some just have a hard time with a space that has been edited :)

This is an Armstrong ad from 1963, and it seems to show the same color and pattern in your bathroom. The kitchen is likely a different color option from the same pattern. Armstrong called this line of vinyl "Corlon" http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2752/4382480528_5884c4e359.jpg

Have you considered painting the current ceiling panels? If they look yellow when the light shines through them, perhaps a coat of paint would make them less translucent and not yellow.
