Thanks for the reply. We definitely want to light up the rooms enough for reading, playing board games, etc. The ability for something dimmer, as well, would be great. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-9/1322679/IMAGE_263.jpg http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-9/1322679/IMAGE_264.jpg

Lighting for Exposed Beam Ceiling

Recessed lighting is out, it appears. The wood on our ceiling is like 1" thick or more, and the roof flashing and insulation is right on the other side. Anyway, any suggestions for ceiling lighting? Our fifty different wall and table lamps in our living/family rooms just don't cut it. Thanks.

Cooling the house - what to do when you don't have AC?

What are the options (besides getting A/C)? Mid-century compliant, of course. Yeah, considered a ceiling fan. Not gonna cut it. We've considered a whole house fan, but I'm not sure how that works with a flat T&G roof. What have others done? Either home-improvement or quick fix. Thanks for any in...

except ours has sharp corners, not rounded, so it is more boxy. The emblem is optional, and we opted against it, of course

Blomberg vs. Milgard

We've made the decision to go w/aluminum replacement windows. :D This is still not w/o concerns for energy efficiency, durability, appearance, etc, however. We're considering Blomberg Series HP 680 and Milgard Standard Aluminum. Just looking for any opinions on one or the other. Or should we go back...

Hiring an Architect

OK, after much consideration, we've decided to suck it up and hire an architect. We've already experienced first hand the disconnect between what we've envisioned and what a contractor ends up constructing. And that was just a remodel of a small bathroom. However, with such a very broad range of rep...

Several unresolved details, actually, like lap siding, doors that don't reach the ground, unrealistic slope, un-modern windows, etc. I'll tighten it up, hopefully soon. So: Why is the "short retaining wall" can...

Hey Joe, the image was rendered from a very lame plan that I threw together. I left out a lot of interior details since our focus right now is on the exterior and landscape.
