Does anyone know if the Gregory farmhouse is available for public viewing? Are any of Wursters houses open to the public?

Re: vinyl window blues (from white?)

vinyl windows-- .....they fit in with the modernist idea of new (okay relativley new) technology available to "the masses" Talk about really reaching for a justification! Why replace a window that probably lasted fifty years with one that will probably last 10? I would suggest tryi...

that is a great looking addition... I just completed a project where I employed a skilled plasterer to finish over new sheet rock. It is absolutely beautiful. You get a monolithic smooth surface that can't be matched by the best possible sheet rock finishers (or at least several very good sheet rock...

vinyl window blues (from white?)

vinyl windows--dreaded by all. I've often thought though that in many ways they fit in with the modernist idea of new (okay relativley new) technology available to "the masses" (by which I mean me on a skinny budget), that makes life better (really good performance at relatively modest cos...

Re: Buying A Rummer

condescending was not my intention. As a Realtor I consider it my job to help people be informed. I applaud and encourage people who do their homework and who put the effort in to be informed. No exception here. I'm just offering my opinion of the house which I have seen and the inspection reports w...

I've sent you a response via private email. If you want one of these houses then you should have one! Please! Relax! you can do it! is this the twilight zone i've entered or some sort of wack weird blog that constantly insults it's visitors? i just want to buy a house, not get into the reasons why i...

Re: always get an inspection!!!

There is just too much irony in this to pass up... if you want a rummer then....you are going to have to accept the glass in the atrium! did you ask your inspector when the telltale signs of leaks were likely from? The seller disclosure addressed them. I don't think I've seen a Rummer yet that doesn...

Re: always get an inspection!!!

this is a completely different issue: work done in an unprofessional manner without proper permits is not at all the same as normal wear and aging of a property. I don't know what property disclosure forms are in common use in your area, but here in Oregon the permit issue is addressed and must be d...

Re: needs some work

i saw this house and loved it. what the realtor won't tell you, yours or otherwise, is that it needs a tremendous amount of work. from roof to flooring this house is a FIXER. buyer beware. I've seen a lot of Rummers. I've photographed alot of Rummers. I've helped numerous people buy and sell Rummer...

sounds like you just have the common "2x6" Tand G car decking material with nominal dims of 1.5" x 5.5". Any decent lumber yard (especially in your heart of the PNW region will be able to supply you. You are in a an area that commonly uses "s green" grade. after awhile ...

Re: Actually saw it in person today :)

It backs to a small freeway but is relatively quiet. They really did a nice job rennovating it. Unfortunately (fortunately?) it is the prize of the neighborhood. Too bad the neighbors haven't followed suit. Several mcm on the street and adjoining street but no one has cared to update. 2-3 lots down...

while I think about what I might like to post, I consider the linking of "mid-century" and "modernism." The two are not instrinsically linked. At the moment I'm thinking that they are not even logically linked. It seems to me that what happened "mid-century" was more th...

the rummer in Oak Hills is a whopping $189,000 above the last Rummer sold that I know of http://www.portlandmodern.com/forsale/images/cecilia/photospage.htmland over $230,000 over the last rummer (I think) that sold in Oak Hills (same model). The price does seem a tad high$.

Portland Oregon Rummer Rescue in progress

Good news in Portland! A messed up Rummer house in the Portland suburbs is being brought back to life by it's new owners. Previous owners had actually built a gable roof over the original low pitched/flat roofline. There are only a few hundred of these Rummer houses in the Portland area so it's good...

I've found a few east side Rummers, but none in the Gresham area. (Several in the Sunnyside area). The ones I've found have been 70's built and are very diluted in terms of design and features compared to the 60's homes found on the west side. I've been called to take a look at several Gresham "Rumm...

dual roof system

Duro Last roofs actually are "free floating" over the decking and are not fastened securely to the roof deck. (They require wind vents to alleviate pressure and to make sure that strong winds don't rip the whole thing off). Structures move--expanding and contracting with the weather. Many post and b...

It is amazing that this house comes with such a great set of working drawings and renderings and that it is virtually intact as it was built. SDR--interesting that you noted the neighbor. The current owner of the house (i.e. the seller) is an architect who designed and built the property next door. He did a very good job in bringing the two properties together. The new building reads almost like a fence for the backyard of this house. The...

Sid, Pricing homes in any market, especially hot ones, is a challenge.
