Re: "Mid-century Modern" stock plans

...The real problem is that it takes a large market to make stock plans worth your time as a professional. You have to sell in volume to recoup your hours when selling at such a low price. Offsetting this somewhat, I should think, is the fact that there is a distinct market (albeit still a niche ma...

I don't know. I would miss the trees. All the surfaces look kind of hard and barren now.

The short answer to this question, I think, is that the best deal on 10" and 12" hanging globe lights would be the Fado lamps from IKEA.

Larger than 12", the best prices I've seen are at LoveIt Lighting: http://loveitlighting.com/cgi-bin/globes_splash.pl

For the record, I watched both of the first two seasons of the O.C. with my 16-y.o. daughter on DVD. It's much hipper than I expected it to be. I didn't catch the MCM reference, but I think it should be taken in a positive light -- the (wryly humorous) point is probably that the character is so ultr...

Didn't IKEA knock this off?

Check out the shelving unit near the window in this Carl Larsson painting, "Letter Writing," ca. 1890.

Looks like an absolutely beautiful spot. This pic from your web portfolio is my favorite:

Is the roof okay? That's the one thing that worries me about MCM houses in these northeastern climates.

Just to make it more difficult for you, I prefer the Le Klint. Haha -- me too, I think (he says ruefully). But this is what happens when something turns into a decision-by-committee. And really, I'm so happy when my kids take an interest in the house, because I do want them to feel a sense of owner...

Wow, that's lovely. And so beautifully integrated into the setting, too. Those trees must be older than the neighborhood (including the one growing through the roof extension -- a great touch). On another botanical front ... is that a big clump of bamboo out by the driveway? Do you know what kind it...

Nelson saucer, Le Klint pendant...?

I had just about talked myself into splurging on a Le Klint 172B pendant light (the one that looks sort of like a melting flower)... http://www.dwr.com/images/features/f_2370.jpg ... when my 21-year-old son, who had been following my deliberations from a distance via IM and e-mail, chimed in to obje...

Try Stan Getz- he sort of introduced Jobim, Gilberto to the american scene and together they created Bossa Nova- also try Gilberto's wife Astrud Gilberto- she did an awesome cover of Fly me to the Moon used in commercials, and recently in the movie "Down with Love" I strongly second these...

The Three Suns (for free)

Ambient music to calm the harried MCM housewife? A blog called Psychotic Leisure Music (http://p-l-m.blogspot.com/) is energetically posting the entire, long-out-of-print discography of The Three Suns, whom he describes thusly: 'The Three Suns were a trio that formed in 1939. They produced music thr...

What a beautiful desk, STLModern! Goffgirl, it strikes me that even though there weren't computers in the MCM home of fifty years ago, there were televisions, and other technological objects such as hi-fi equipment and various appliances. It would seem to be consistent with the Modern aesthetic to a...

Color thoughts - new cottage, lots of exposed wood?

I'm building a small cottage/studio on the Maine coast -- it's about a month from completion, if all goes well -- and it's going to be a complete tabula rasa. I have almost no furniture to take there, and my budget is nearly depleted for the near term. This presents, of course, the opportunity to st...
