Here's that floorplan - I didn't have convenient access to my master plan, so this is just a quick sketch of the basic layout... http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e396/drsiebling/Mobile%20Uploads/image-21.jpg And here's a satellite image taken about 2 years ago: http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e39...

Thanks! By the way, I wish I could claim responsibility for the photos - they were taken by a professional and I think he did a great job. He managed to get all the right angles and quite I few I wouldn't have even considered!

Benihana! That's great! We definitely need to have someone working the hibachi for the open house... The house is 4488 square feet; 5 bedrooms and 4 full baths. The maine living room area is approximately 50 feet long by 35 feet wide. The exterior decks are roughly 3000 sq ft. So, it's a big one! I'...

Thanks so much for the nice comments! I don't disagree about the built-in. It was a bit of a compromise in order not to make the sucker too large. As it stands, it's almost 15 feet long! I certainly had time where this restoration was concerned - in November, it will have been a 4 year project. Plen...

Hello everybody... thought I'd update with a few teaser photos. We've got final cleanup going on for the next few days, followed by terrazzo polishing and final touch-up painting. So, I'll have the nice final product images in the next 2 weeks. In the mean time, here are a few shots of the house in ...

Heh - it is not what I would call a good time. To make matters worse, in addition to routing out a 1/2 inch channel on one side of each board and a 3/4 on the other side, I planed each board for a smooth finish rather than the traditional rough cedar finsh. Clear cedar is amazing looking stuff when ...

The material I'm using for siding and around the door is 1x6 clear cedar. It's sealed with TWP "cedartone" wood preservative - I like the TWP because it actually does protect the wood from UV, unlike so many other products, and because it allows the majority of the natural color variations...

Dallas, TX - Barthel House - $425,000

I'm shocked to not have seen a mention of the legendary Barthel House being up for sale. Mr. Barthel, the architect, lived in the house up until he passed away a few weeks ago.

A/C is definitely a way of life in Texas - no doubt about it. So far, I've been very pleased with the floor-based duct system. Of course, we haven't exactly had any 100+ degree days as of yet, but that will, unfortunately, be here very soon. Either way, getting that mess off of the roof was a major ...

The octopus had to go! Fortunately, there was existing ductwork built into the slab that was in excellent condition, so we are now using it again. Works great and has all kinds of positive benefits from being located in a concrete floor.

It's been a little while since I posted about this new adventure. Needless to say, we hit a few delays - mortgage company wanted us to repair the foundation BEFORE they would let us close. A dicey situation indeed, but it all worked out in the end: http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e396/drsiebling/1...

The house is located in the Lake Highlands district of Dallas... It's a fantastic area! The chimney In question was a definite add-on as was the raised roof in that same room. Looks like they raised it about 4 feet - no idea why... There are about 20 "styles" going in the house right now.....

A New Venture

It had to happen - - I just knew I'd find another house that needed some help. Well, I found one. Words can't even do justice to how badly this once incredible MCM home has fallen prey to idiot remodelers and pure laziness. I could go on and on about how someone managed to stucco the entire interior...

The two homes you posted pictures of are both the work of local architect Cliff Welch and are located about 3 blocks from my house. Welch is an all-around good guy and one hell of an architect. I don't think they are particularly MCM, but he's a definite fan of the style. He's also somewhat famous a...
