Wow, that wood is amazing - I imagine mahogany would be very pricey to replace, so that was a practical move (to say nothing of saving a few mahogany trees.) I presume you'd shown the original owners your handiwork, and I hope they were pleased. So with such a detailed furniture plan, are you attemp...

I suppose the big question is, how much of this "trend" is simply the result of a bad economy? That's it in a nutshell. As soon as the money starts flowing again you can look to everyone pouring back into McMansions. I find it interesting that 90% of what I read regarding the suburbs is n...

Ok, I had to look up your profile to remember your place. Once I saw it, I am inclined to tell you riff off the triangles that are a theme of the architecture. Where does IKEA furniture go when it dies?

I very much wanted to get a sectional sofa in IKEA's "Hamra" line - and as I spent a long time deciding what configuration and color, and whether I could afford it - they dropped the line. So far I haven't found a marketplace that deals specifically in this store's old stuff, and finding w...

I_LUV_POWER!!!! (your name really calls for some heavy handed shift key action) what did Henson have to say about Pal? Any interesting insights? He must've said something about Pal, and I'm sure it was insightful., but again this was 25 years ago. Although this regular event was named after George ...

I saw a post on another group with an interesting observation; in the 50s and 60s we had two father-figure types on tv named Walt, with moustaches...one dealt in fantasy, the other in facts. Even though they were crazy times, there was a certain cosmic balance there. That's either deep or gibberish,...

The smell of a 1930s car mohair upholstery. Takes me right back to trips to our grandmother's in northern Nebraska. She had a '33 Ford Victoria she drove well into her old age. A little Google search later, I see a yellow flowered vinyl roof was an option on the 1969 Plymouth Barracuda. Yes, just what the tough guy muscle car crowd was looking for...but there may have been some marketable overlap between hot-rodder and hippie.

Very smart car - and the orchid/pink colors weren't really beyond the pale in those two-tone days. I'll bet this inspired the 'Simpsons' episode where the hulking Canyonero SUV Homer bought turned out to be the 'lady's edition', with a lipstick holder in place of a lighter. Horrified, he promptly ha...
