Googie building near its end, what was it???

Here is an Iowa building that was a gem in its day. What was it? I can imagine it was a drive-in, or maybe a burger joint. Its got some great roof supports that were wonderful designs. I think the salvage value on this butterfly roof is pretty good. The building is empty and the roof is completely f...

Hi, Hopsack is usually one color, and this is green and black. This appears to be off the Knoll looms and dates to the pre 1962 era of Knoll furniture. Its an interesting fabric and tough as nails. The cushions were missing when I found this, so we made them with black boucle. It does the job for no...

Here is a sample look, I am still applying the materials still today. I still have molding left to apply, and probably should have went with the brown gutters two years ago. Hi Thanks for the advice. I did a search of the forum after I did this new post, and found an older one that SDR added some thoughts. http://www.lottaliving.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=5725&highlight=redwood I realize it will probably be able to withstand the elements, and not lose too much color. Bu...

Need redwood advice on outdoor finish, Midwest zone!

Hi I recently got into a lumber yard with enough redwood to do my house soffit with. Since its hanging like an upside down deck, what is the best way to maintain that just power washed look? Would no finish at all cause a problem? I think it should stay dry, and its not being hit with direct sunligh...

Hey Pete I drove by the house over thanksgiving, it looked great. I told my family about it, and they were loving the pictures you posted. I was going to take some pics, but it was late in the day and the good light was gone. It so dark and cold out here this time of year. You would have to be reall...

Hi Sorry I have been away, from this site, for so long. My parents live in Lovilia, and I attended schools in Albia. Interesting neighborhood for sure. I took a drive around the eastern side of Osky last spring, out of curiosity. I will ask some people I know about that area of town. I plan on takin...

Peterm Hi... what a small world... I live in Iowa and have admired that neighborhood for some time. I have family within 25 miles of Osky, and my grandparents are buried there. I live in eastern Iowa now, but travel there to see my parents. I will do a drive by next time! There are so few people tha...

Hi Interesting on your roof. Some insulation is better than none. Since we both live in the midwest, (me in Iowa), I like to analyze why the Eichler roof barely works in California, and why it would be a nightmare here. I had the pleasure to stop in a Eichler open house in Orange Ca. a year ago. It ...

wwilbur I really like your modest pad. Its really tasteful! I think the patio is a fantastic. I want to go looking at that privacy material. It seems so much cleaner than the corrugated fiberglass. Are you worried about high winds punching out the privacy screens? Also, is your roof/ceiling plaster,...

Hi all, Thanks for the input.... I like that pbase site as well. It seemed less add intensive. I was able to use photobucket within a few minutes, linked pictures to a web forum like this one, and found it could host ebay photos as well. Hi Thats my favorite style Eichler! Is it the Oakland design? I think the most important thing in a quality wiring job is properly sized breakers, that will trip with ease. Don Draper... the dark man

Hi I suppose its going to get darker, or how could the characters get darker? I was stunned with the thought of one brother paying another off, to stay out of his life! I didn't think ones own status is that valuable. Last weeks show was really juicy with a twist in the direction the series is going...

Best pic hosting site? photobucket, kodak, flicr, snapfish,

Hi If you are like me, you are moving your pictures because yahoo is getting out of picture hosting. They offer an easy migration, to one of these picture hosting websites. I think photobucket looks more powerful for ebay useage, but does anyone have an opinion? Do you prefer any free web picture si...

In honor of trapped miners and failed Interstate bridges, get some heavy posts under those beams. You are worth more than the money you are saving on that woeful support system in place. 2x4's are not enough, unless there are 50 of them, and they are supporting loads individually. Please Please....

redwood

Hi I just recycled some redwood beams that were very old, for a patio overhead structure. The beams were oxalic bleached, and I also tried several deck cleaning, and stripping agents, used for refinishing. None of them hurt the redwood, and none really cleaned the wood to a colorless state. I soaked...
