(Tangential question: if modern architecture was mainstream, would it be as interesting?) I nominate this for statement of the year! :D I hate what the McMansion stands for, the excess and wastefulness of our society. McMansion is not really an architectural style; I have seen what I would consider...

Re: 99K House

Not "modern" in appearance (far from it) but "modern" in approch (or at least it wants to be). Recently completed, highly touted 99K house in Houston (Note: land was donated and work was performed by volunteers). See it here: http://swamplot.com/the-99k-house-competition-winner-...

We ended up getting 2 of the Wells sofas, 78" and 101", they are great and the quality is outstanding. Although not advertised the Wells sofas are availible in microfiber as well as the leather. We are loving the new furniture.

Yep, and I tell you this furniture blows all my preconcieved notions about Ikea out of the water. I have caught myself numberous times just staring at it since bringing it home. The details, especially at the legs are great, I love this table.

New MCM Furniture

Sorry if this is a repost New line of MCM influenced pieces at IKEA We just picked up this table this weekend, good deal for $249, and of a much higher quality that the typical Ikea particle board stuff. I think it is going to go great with our new R&B Wells sofas. This is a full line, check it ...

Re: And

Underneath all of it homes for the most part are all constructed the same way. You can strip off all the stuff and it's all pretty much basically the same-wood or steel stud frame l&p/drywall, no matter if it's a 1300 sf bungalow in South Central LA or a 3500 sf mcmansion in Porter Ranch. What ...

Agree^, powerwash may be faster but it drives allot of moisture into the wood, also hard on the wood grain although not as bad as sandblasting (never sandblast wood or brick/stone). I would suggest hand scraping or a chemical remover, there are some good soy/peanut based products that are enviro-fri...

R&B Andre Sofa?

Anyone own an Andre Sofa from Room and Board? It seems to be a fitting MCM styled piece and looks comfortable. If you have one, is it comfortable, how long have you owned it, how has it held up? We do not have a R&B in Texas so I would be ordering out of faith and word of mouth. Any info or expe...

We have the Crush lounge, pretty comfortable and a good price. I am looking at their sofas as a possible solution to our now vacant living room. Not bad, the yellow looks better than I would have thought. It does have an overall nice warm feel to it. This room is clean slate, we have not even purchased furniture for the room yet, so I have don't have many constraints. One big decision is to either go bland on the walls and brighten it up wit...

Interior Color Selection

I have searched LottaLiving for some example rooms for inspiration on my Living Room/Dining Room. Being that our home is a 1956 Ranch we were not blessed with the hardwood walls and expanses of glass that the lucky MCM owners have. So in order to give the room a little pop and avoid the minimalist w...

Looks like a great starting point, a few simple changes and it would look great. Or, dare I say it, Mid century ranches make a great canvas for more extensive renovations. I am onboard with the restoration of the true MCM homes, but to me a simple ranch is just asking for some creativity.

Re: Something that surprises me....

Secondly, architect fees vary quite a bit. The more information you give the architect, the less time they have to spend and the lower the fees. You may find that the Platt house is a great starting point and it having a local architect start modifying it more closely to what you want. Yes, and rea...

Re: "Mid-century Modern" stock plans

I am currently working on a series of Modern home plans that more specifically recall Mid-20th Century Modernism, while as a designer I don't consider myself a "stylist" I do believe in the study and application of past principles applied to today's problems. As such the formal vocabulary...

Introduction

Hello all, I have been visiting the Forums for some time but finally decided to join. I am an Architect in Dallas living in a 1956 Fox & Jacobs Ranch home. Nothing spectacular but I have been making changes over the past year. I am not a MCM purist but love the amount of style in the older homes...
