hey sdr, thanks for your input on this. I believe the japanese style you are referencing may perhaps be the style that caught my eye with dark trim. it always seemed modern yet elegant to me. great insights on Wright as well. Now for the door. Unfortunately, the door will have to stay for the short ...

Hey rockland, yeah it's just that one beam in that part of the house that is visible from the porch and the back deck. I think the light color it is painted is really bland so I am liking the continuation from within the house. maybe a little more work but since it's not all beams visible 360 like y...

beams: ok, so the interior beams are a dark walnut stain. I guess i would have to sand off the paint that was painted on the beams on the outside and restain it to match the inside. fascia- does this include the gutters? posts-the posts are not visible as they are covered with siding so those are no...

hey joe, so do you mean leave the trim around the windows the same color as whatever i paint the rest of the house? I have thought of that. I have also seen people take the trim off of their windows for a more stream lined look.

the window frames are black.

yeah i am not that into the door either but it'll take a while for that. I also agree about the trick or treaty look.

any suggestions for a good brown or where to find good color combos for mod homes?

black trim? or dark brown trim?(exterior)

That is the question. I like the look that I have seen on some MCM's with Black or near black exterior trim. I am leaning towards a brown(jackson tan) or greenish(jamesboro gold) color for the main siding of the house. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Right now as you can see from the link, the...

hey robbhouston, thanks for the comments. I thought the pony wall is distinctive as well but doesn't really have a purpose other then to make the kitchen seem closed off. the glass cabinet must go. I think we'll get a much mor clear picture of what to get rid of and what to hold on to when all the s...

thanks folks. we haven't moved in yet. but there's lot's to scrape away. 1. I kind of like the faux wood paneling but my wife won't have it. I do agree it woud be lighter with some color on the walls. 2. we'd like wood floors throughout instead of the bad linoleum and carpet. 3. I'd like to reconfig...

later century(70's) chalet/ modern with elements of mcm?

hello, first time posting. I have been attracted to MCM style for a few years now and wanted our next house to be in the MCM style. When my wife and I started looking for houses in the oakland/montclair area of california, i noticed that my favorite homes with cathedral cielings were all built a lit...
