Mid-Century Modern Home for sale in Weston, CT

After seven years, we're selling our house. We've only honored the architecture, and we've never tried to make this house something it was never meant to be. 3.25 acres. Really good public schools. Low taxes for the area. Clearly a home for someone looking for a MCM that hasn't been ruined. One-hour...

Floor transitions

Anyone know of any decent transition strips? Home Depot seems to only carry crap. It would be a transition strip from cork to black vinyl Armstrong.

Thanks.

Shavaun Towers in New Haven is top notch. She grew up in a MCM house.

eBay: Arthur Umanoff Bar Cart

I posted this as "pick-up only" but if you can hire a shipping company to come out here, pack it up and send it, you're welcome to bid. Thanks. At $500 it's a smoking deal. http://www.ebay.com/itm/200815006347?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 Thanks for looking!

Our house was designed for a gay couple in the late '50s, and it's not the least bit child-friendly. I'd like to keep it that way, but the insurance company won't let me.

Thanks. I will definitely take that 4-foot sphere rule into consideration. Not sure "The Ice Storm" house's back handrails would pass that test.

back deck handrails

Anyone know where we could buy handrails for our back deck like the ones in this clip from "The Ice Storm"?

I'm sure they're custom, but I have no idea where to look.

Thanks.

A few years ago, we searched for a MCM home within an hour's commute to the city. We looked at a great (but very run-down) Milton Klein house in New Jersey. That was it for New Jersey at that time. For some reason, the real estate agents in New Jersey rarely use the term 'mid-century modern.' The Mi...

Highbrowfurniture.com is great to deal with. They have free shipping and no taxes, and all of their furniture is licensed -- no knock-offs.

I've gotten a lot on eBay, too.

Thomas Fleming, Wilton, CT 06883

I saw this was for sale and thought I'd post here in hopes that a Modernist fan will see it. It's a Thomas H. Fleming-designed home, three octagons (or maybe hexagons) connected. It was the cover-featured house in House and Home magazine back in the early '60s, I believe. Thomas Fleming was a sculpt...

Thanks. Interesting article.

As the owner of an original Sussex cabinet, I have to say I'm disgusted with the former knock-off mentality of DWR: They'll knock off the little guys, but not the big ones. I'm glad they're no longer doing it.

I recently sanded, stained, and applied a few coats of water-based poly to 1960 cork. Looks great. You treat it like you would a hardwood floor. Furniture indentations seem to be there for good, though.

Help, please, Los Angelinos and Las Angelinas

I'm in LA this week for business and I've arranged it so I have Friday free. I'd love to check out some MCM residential architecture while I'm here, but I stupidly didn't do my homework before I left Connecticut. Can anyone suggest a few homes that I should check out? I'm staying down in Palos Verde...
