also… how big is this place? i mean, i know they make 'em big in texas, but i think counted 4 full bathrooms... and a Benihana in the middle of the great room.

(seriously, it'd be cool to see a floor plan. i'm getting a bit turned around from front to back).

a second kudos on the photography, too. it's nice to see folks spending time to do that right, as well as the renovation work itself.

as far as i can tell, they come painted per original (i.e.: they came that way). they're redwood, so not the most attractive raw wood (and wouldn't look right next to the mahogany used in the house).

although not original, that rock facade was installed over 30 years ago and hasn't taken one lick of maintenance and has protected the house from blistering summer sun (and keeping the inside a bit cooler) for the same length of time. it's really grown on me and knowing what i do about the sun expos...

Concord, CA // (1963) A Very Original Eichler // $449K

The house across the street is now for sale for $449K. It needs lots of updates, but nothing out of the ordinary (flooring, etc.) and nothing that should cost a ton of coin. There are lots of original bits in this house including the radiant heat system, sliders/windows/lights, etc. ... This would b...

the panelling in our eichler is thin -- 1/4in if i'm not mistaken -- and was hung with nails... and far less than you'd expect (about 12in spacing). you've got some good advice above. the only thing i would add would be to consider a pneumatic brad nailer and a touch of matching wood putty. as far a...

a one-piece cap is certainly a better alternative, but with a few stock pieces from big-orange, you can achieve a fairly solid solution for under $10 (for the cap itself -- not the resin). http://redneckmodern.typepad.com/redneckmodern/2008/11/tcb-taking-care-of-beams.html did the termite guy do the...
