SMI

The SMI logo stands for either 'Svenska Möbel Industrier' or 'Sveriges Möbelindustriförbund', according to some discussions I have followed here in Sweden. SMI was probably an association of several smaller furniture industries. SMI is often mistaken for SMF, which is 'Svenska Möbelfabrikerna i Boda...

I'm usually against refinishing an original piece in any way, but since this one was beyond repair according to your description, you simply saved it for a worthy 'afterlife'.

Must say I like the new design better than the original...

This house has been altered so far beyond it's original design that they shouldn't even be allowed to use the Grossman name in relation the listing. here's a cheaper one. Not local at all, but at that price, shipping might be another option... Mid Century Dealers and things to see in Detroit?

Hey all, I will be visiting Detroit for a few days next week. I will be working mostly, but I was wondering if anyone here on Lottaliving knows of any good mcm dealers, thrift stores or even just places to see? I'd appreciate any advice very much, since I haven't had the time to do much research...

I think it looks similar in style to some of Lane's 'danish-inspired' coffee tables from the same period and these you can usually get for $100-300. Sol Bloom

The designer of the original which Modernica copied was Sol Bloom, just thought I'd add that to the discussion... I don't know if the Modernica one was a licensed repro or not... Well, I can't tell for sure of course, but it just doesn't look Swedish to me. The light, shiny laquered wood is not my idea of the Swedish 50's, I think of lots of heavy teak and rosewood furniture as well as the 'String' shelving units by Nisse Strinning and also a lot of other stuff made in the '...

Yes, I have seen all of those too and I agree the stacking tables are not as strict in design and also they are in ash (I think) not walnut. While the stacking tables look more 'whimsical' than the above designs for Glenn, Grossman did a few other pieces that were not as strict as those. For example...

Wanted: 'Glenn of California' sales material, catalogues etc

Hello, I'm trying to identify a set of tables (see picture my earlier thread on a Grossman attribution), that are said to be made by 'Glenn of California' in the late 40's - early 50's. I would be very interested in getting in touch with anyone that have any old sales material from this company. All...
