What I said was that some building codes are pointless, and indeed serve to make a home worse rather than better (often driving up the cost of modifications in the process). In these cases, I further made the argument that home owners should take action when possible to advance getting these codes ...

Re: 107 degrees today in Eugene

three straight days of triple digit weather. I think we survived. don't need no stinking AC! our single bedroom ac unit was maxed out for well over a week, and the rest of our apartment was just miserable. interestingly, we got out of the house for a sunday drive on one of the hottest days of the y...

I would say that home owners should do what they can to resist and argue for changing pointless building codes that make their homes worse (many of which seem to be designed to improve the prices contractors can charge for what would otherwise be less profitable jobs). building codes arent really p...

Re: all good thoughts-

I'm sorry to say the home shown (below) in this LL "Topic" isn't all that well designed- as "MCM", Modern or any other "style" needs be. J- Hi Jerry, I'm still learning about Modern design. What isn't Modern or livable about the MK house? Thank you:) not enough informa...

Re: by Paul Kirk, Architect FAIA

Here's a well-designed Mid-CenturyModern home by Paul Kirk- https://knol.google.com/k/-/-/246qxuxd260sm/2sfehz/paul-kirk.jpg illustrating my point that homes should be warm and inviting- no matter what the style is. Re: Hasn't sold?

I looked this up the other day. It's been on the market for 8 months. Any reason why this place hasn't sold? the market in the northwest is finally crashing, and the already limited market for these homes just got even more limited. that price point for sure filters out every non-specialty buyer, s...

To add some clarification. We're looking at (various) methods to help us get to $150/sq ft + land on a 1700 - 1900sq ft design. A panelized low-skill assembly process was just one idea. The idea is to create an attractive, innovative, modern home targeted to many "second-time" homebuyers....

ive been interested in something like this for several years, but i guess my only fear is public perception as far as re-sale value. technically, its a modular home on a typical spread footing foundation. i really like the flatpak system by the lazor office. the only problem i see is that this could...

it has to be used as a significant price bargaining chip. know that as soon as you touch the building, as far as construction, you likely will be liable and accountable for bringing the property to current standards. this isnt to say that there isnt a chance you may be able to establish a good relat...

It would be only as a work of art, not as domestic real estate. Other iconic modern properties have jumped in (perceived) value in the same way: John Lautner's Wolfe house is just one example. i guess you could argue that it switched over from a single family residence to art somewhere along the li...

Re: You Have To Be Kidding!

Those websites are a waste of time. You'd be much better off having a real estate professional give you the actual sale comparables that reflect the values of the neighborhood directly surrounding the property. Those values reflect sales in a MUCH different neighborhood to the west of this home :ro...

yes, but the decor likely isn't staying with the house and for the $100K that it's conceivably undervalued undervalued? take a look at the housing bubble on this one, it still has a ways to fall yet. of course, there is a niche market for these homes, but waiting for those buyers just extends its s...

We have been through 17000 Lisette a couple of times. I like the house a lot but it is right on Balboa which is very busy and noisy. The other drawbacks, in my opinion, were the very small backyard, the sixties paneling and the wall mounted air condtioning units. We went to see the house last sprin...

Stephen, I wouldn't be worried about the building department. They don't care why someone is looking at the permits - it won't raise any red flag. Obviously, though, one wouldn't say "I want to look at the permits for this house to see if the repiping was done with permits". Just look and...
