Yup, working on the lamp itself that jesgord posted. It's funny now that we've found it, we're not sure if it's our exact taste. But it definitely looks like the photo! Thanks for the heads up! We'll still definitely hang it up if I win the auction.

Wow, sounds like they weren't that great. I guess it depends if it's made of hemp (smooth) or sisal (rough)? Those checkered rugs were in so many houses back then! Well, guess if it don't work that well, that's a reason for it's retirement.

Is this a Dorothy Schindele Desk?

Just bought this desk. Wonder if anyone know if it is a Dorothy Schindele desk? Made by Modern Color? Or Vista? The metal frame is original (untouched), but the wood tops, and drawers are new. So no tags. Thoughts? Thanks. http://www.goldh.com/chad/cove/furniture/Schindele_Desk_1_web.jpg http://www....

Just got back from Palm Springs for the Modernism Show. No luck on finding the ceiling lamp, but found a Lightolier floor lamp that looks like the exact one in our house photo taken in 1954... so we're stoked! Did find a Lightolier Lamp that looks almost like the original photo on eBay a few days ag...

Wow, just saw the Birtcher Residence in Mt Washington on Saturday! Didn't have the chance to see the inside, but the photos are amazing. The owners looked like they were building an extension to the house, which still looks gorgeous. Our historian mentioned you feel like you are floating, standing i...

Wow... Thanks Josquin for explaining how the 3' module worked for Rodney Walker! I was about to reply to that, and realized you already did! The ceiling lamp looks like production Lightolier to me. Search for that on ebay and you will eventually find it. Wow... seems like a great guess! Lightolier is the same manufacturer for the white floor lamp in the 2nd photo! We picked that up in Palm Springs a few years ago... never thought of loo...

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for it. Must say you got a pretty good collection there, and your house looks like in great shape, and orig cabinetry! Don't think our house is published anywhere. Those were photos taken by Julius Shulman, great help to see what's original, what's not. House by Case Stu...

Can you add some pics to this thread showing your lamp? Thanks for the info! Here is a link to the old pic taken in 1954. Sorry size is small. I did the best I could for now. I had the shade spun and then stole parts from some production lamps that I purchased. Originally it was a counter weight/pulley system, now its the typical take up reel style. Your house and decor looks great! Good research for getting all the right pieces. I have a...

Thanks everyone! yes, Dan, I copied some of the milling text in the patent, and emailed to my carpenter. He's going to ask around to see if anyone is up for it... perhaps, like you said, ruining their industrial sized planer kinves? It's sounding more and more expensive to me now. Anybody in with us...

I love that stuff, the siding in my picture was no doubt inspired by it but is nonetheless different. Another visual aid with some info in the comments: http://flickr.com/photos/msatomic/1721234227/ Perhaps not helpful but interesting anyway: http://www.google.com/patents?id=ZMJDAAAAEBAJ&dq=des...

Thanks so much for the tips and info. Only possibiillity I have is from our Historian, who know someone who was ripping it out, but they are small pieces, with holes cut out for shelves. Another is his parents' house, but had water damage. We need big pieces. of course 4x8 is preferred, but open to ...

So I have found this link that shows a close up photo of the striated plywood. Scroll down, and you'll see swatches of photos of diffferent lumber. It is labelled 'Wetdtex', next to the T-111. I think they have mis-typed it. It's actually called 'Weldtex'. http://www.cabinlogplan.com/cabinlogplan33....

Thanks for the links. Nope, it doesn't look like any of those shown on both links. I'll try to take a photo, and post it tomorrow.

Ours is a Rodney Walker house, and we saw those plywood in some of his other houses during a tour in Bel Aire.

Striated Plywood - Help

Hello, 2 years ago, we bought a house built in 1953, that uses this plywood as the exterior siding. Unfortunately, over the years, the plywood has been cut for plumbing repairs etc, and patched back. So, trying to find more pieces, to restore this house, so that the exterior wouldn't look so 'Franke...
