disney animator

Hi all - I was searching for something else and stumbled upon your discussion. I just wanted to add that I did not get to meet Ward Kimball but one of his granddaughters is a good friend of mine. As a result I visited his house this summer - talk about great mid-century mod - straight from the era. ...

knocking first

I too have thought of knocking on the doors of houses in our neighborhood that we love. Some of the houses have clearly been rejuvenated and I want to know who did the work. I just have to work up the nerve. CH - great redo - how did you decide on the backyard fence with the wood and corrugated meta...

wild house

Wow! I had to give a giggle because it is such a wild house. I would have had to buy it too. The picture window and view are worth every penny alone. Love it! Keep us updated. ***

Toy Collectors Check This Out

Hi guys, Just wanted to let the toys enthusiasts know that in Terminal 3 of SFO they have quite a collection of vintage toys, books, collecting cards, and advertisements (i.e. back of cereal boxes). Many are from earlier than mid-century but many are from the 50's and 60's. All the toys look to be i...

Lane sideboard

Here's a link to the sideboard that my little brother scored - for FREE! It was left in an apartment that my dad was moving into. The family who had the Lane sideboard and nightstands didn't want it so they left it for my dad. But by luck my dad didn't need it so he gave it to my poor bachelor broth...

Lux Starburst Clock

Here's a link to a picture of my Lux Starburst Clock. We just had a BBQ and we got a few compliments on the clock. It was very affordable too - less than $50 dollars but I can't remember exactly how much. http://eugenemodernmonkey.blogspot.com/2008/06/lux-starburst-clock.html I love yours Scott and ...

Maybe this string can be dedicated to sideboards, identification and admiration of now that the G plan mystery has been solved? Anyone have a sideboard that they want to show off?

I just checked Craigslist and it is not posted there anymore. They had it posted on Friday but not today and they had reposted it at $375 and not $325. It's just good to know that we can still find great pieces like that in smaller towns like Eugene. . . http://www.eugenemodernmonkey.blogspot.com

FINAL UPDATE

The owner checked and found the red G plan label! She said thanks for mentioning it because she was going to rip it off! The dealer in Portland was only able to offer them a third of the retail price - so $300 dollars. He thought he could sell it for $900. So they were talking to someone about consi...

Love your house and all your work that you've posted so far. As a fellow northwesterner I'm thrilled to show everyone what modern style we do have. It's not all log cabins and birkenstocks! I did go to the Windmere link and the way you captured the view and natural light is shown well but the...

Update/dilemma

So I didn't make it to the sideboard last night for a visit - the drive was too much after a day of work but I did do more research on the piece and I think Miguel hit it right on the nose - G plan. I found exact versions on ebay UK all claiming G plan. So I called the seller last night to say I was...

To me, that piece looks like G-Plan. G-Plan was a British manufacturer of Danish-styled high-quality furniture (designed by Ib Koford-Larsen). Pieces with two-tones are usually teak and rosewood solid wood/veneers, and both the shape of pulls and round corners are typically a giveaway. Some example...

My first response is the sheen issue. Someone has glossed it? (my father used shellac on everything in the 70's). Gloss poly maybe? Danish pieces usually have such a nice patina. Something to consider. If it is shellac, it would benefit from a couple layers of wax. Rockland - I don't know how I mis...

I.D. Sideboard: Larsen? Vodder?

Hi Folks, I'm trying to decide whether or not purchase this sideboard I found on craigslist. You can check it out here. http://eugenemodernmonkey.blogspot.com/2008/07/danish-teak-sideboard-to-purchase-or.html The owner said it's been in his family for awhile (was very ambiguous). They claim it is te...

I just wanted to add that I was at Taliesin West recently and our tour guide did mention that there is an archive of unbuilt FLW designed projects including private residences that may have been commissioned but fell through for whatever reason. She did say too that private individuals continue to p...

We too are in our first home and while it's not quite MCM it was built in 1960's. Right era wrong look. Our budget is next to nothing and I too have been debating a new front door. Tomb, I think our front doors are nearly identical (see link below). The glass detail inside is horrendous - no. I've b...

sweet potential

Your house looks like it has so much atomic potential. Getting past the WTF stage can be difficult. Have you picked up the book by the guy at Apartment Therapy? It's helped me to prioritize and pick one room at a time to focus on. Now have I totally followed this advice? No of course not. I am in th...

excellent bones!

What a great find! I agree that the shade of red is a keeper - just extend it even down to the front door area. I'm not sure how I feel about the white white trim maybe a taupe color to match the brick facade (on the front). Is there anyway to match the brick on the sides to the brick on the front? ...

What an improvement! Great work. Glad to know there are other folks with similar aesthetics in Eugene - and in our neighborhood. Go FAN!
