although not original, that rock facade was installed over 30 years ago and hasn't taken one lick of maintenance and has protected the house from blistering summer sun (and keeping the inside a bit cooler) for the same length of time. it's really grown on me and knowing what i do about the sun expo...

I completely agree with the kwikset comment. I would much prefer a schlage system as well, but since the front door is isolated visually from all the other doors in the house, i guess I can live with it. I wasn't really saying the one I posted was better, just another choice for people looking for o...

Hi all - I live in an eichler in so cal, and there is a guy who produces a fairly nice approximation of the original escutchon. I am about ready to start an atrium renovation project and plan on using this for our new front door. Kind of pricey though....If anyone wants the details I can send it to ...

Regardless of whether or not your chairs are 'MCM' or not (by who's standards anyways? scowsa's?) they appear to be danish modern-esque. I have never seen those exact chairs before, so I don't know what their value may be. The most important thing is you liked them enough to reuse them in your home....

Hey Stephen - Any idea where the cabinets and drawer pulls came from in your neighbors house? The pulls are kind of george nelson-ish, I like them. Well, you asked for an A versus B and then everyone gives you a C option. It looks like this could be a south facing facade. The sensitive addition of some shade trees might be an option, but it could change the character of your property. Another option might be some sort of built shade / sun scree...

That depends on a couple issues. 1) How much insulation do you currently have in your roof? Do the windows get direct sun exposure, or are an...

foam roofers in so cal?

Thanks for the info Egads, I have already put a call into that company. They have done a number of homes in our neighborhood. I am looking for other companies to compare bids. We are planning to tear off the old roof to re-route some electrical that was placed on the side of the house.

fence contractor

Yes, I am designing the fence. We have drawings for it and have been getting quotes from contractors. Since the wood that was selected is pretty expensive and the fence is very long and a prominent feature on the west side of the property, I would like an experienced contractor.

thanks
