Sunset Blvd Hamburger Hamlet closing

The company's been going out of business for years but, until this year, managed to keep their "flagship" location open. Originally opened on Sunset Blvd in 1950; moved to this spot in 1968.

I attended the MODCOM field trip to his studio a couple years ago. He gave a terrific presentation, and you could tell he truly loved his work.

A class act.

Chris, do we know if the current look is a recreation of the building's original design? (It's a dramatic "before and after" indeed.)

Great photos; things look a lot further along based on the interior shots. The place is going to be incredible, and it'll do very, very well. Thanks to you, Adriene, everyone else from ModCom and the City of Downey, we have a textbook example of how things are supposed to turn out. I spoke to a numb...

Is it still likely Bob's will be opening on September 19th? I drove by yesterday and, although it's probably not impossible, it looks like a lot of work needs to get wrapped up in the next two weeks.

Probably...and that nice old palm tree is now gone...I was driving by a few weeks ago and saw them cutting it down. It was tall, they probably figured it was obstructing the singage... HATE seeing palm trees getting cut down... A little off-topic but...... Until not that long ago, the property just...

Chris, what's the latest with Bernard Luggage? Most of the stories I've found date back to 2006, when it was announced the store would be incorporated into the new complex. They make note that the facade will be restored, but not that it'll be the only part of the store that remains. Yet, that's cle...

Not sure, but I might remember there being a location at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. While doing an online search about this subject, I came upon a place called Carnation Ice Cream Land in Santa Ana. I have no idea if there's any connection at all to the original company, but I'll be checkin...

Thanks Chris! That particular menu's a little before my time, but I'd still order a Carnation Special Sundae. So what if the five-scoop creation costs 85 cents, I'm a big spender.

Bob's Big Boy 2191 S Harbor Boulevard Anaheim, CA Huh, isn't this where one of the Van DeKamp's restaurants was? It ended up as a Mexican restaurant (as a folded plate sombrero??), and finally a western BBQ place where each booth was done up like a little covered wagon, before the building was torn...

Ah yes, LACMA when there were fountains - next to May Company which was across the street from Orbach's. 8-) Two of my favorites at Carnation were the BBQ Beef sandwiches (hey, I was a kid) and their specialty sundaes (especially the "Red Hot Lover"). Please let us know if you remember the...

Carnation Ice Cream Restaurant (Wilshire Blvd.)

Does anyone else remember the restaurant operated by Carnation when their headquarters building was on Wilshire Blvd.?

I know the place is long gone, but I have many memories of it from my younger days and was wondering if anyone knew of any links to any photos/information about the place. Thanks!
