One interesting thing is that if i go to www.lottalivin.com (like the logo) I cannot log into the message boards. But www.lottaliving.com (with the "g") works fine!

Just saw Iron Man. How about his house in that movie? one of those modern, perched on the edge of cliff jobbies... pretty cool I just saw that one too!! Now there is a fantastic example of how a character "living modern" should be portrayed!! A SUPER HERO!! :D (I was disappointed to hear ...

Living vicariously through you Mid-Century Dwellers!!!

I'm an East Coast Girl! My degree is in architecture and I spent my career as an interior architect for a corporate interiors firm in the Washington Metro area. Modern design is my passion. While in Northern Virginia I was the first owner of a cedar California Contemporary open plan home. It was a n...

MattMCM, One of my favorite sources for cabinet hardware has a solution for that. Their nickel bar pulls are fabulous, have amazing weight to them and are priced much better than the larger stores. I redid a whole kitchen and got 57 pulls in a day. Check out this site or contact them to see if they ...

I totally agree that this is a worthwhile discussion. Modernism is not merely an aesthetic visual style. It is an approach, a lifestyle that is as much visual as it is a "feeling". (Maybe we should have a discussion about what that feeling is? I think it is an individual thing) Anyway, I f...

Totally agree with Robbhouston on the very tailored full wall of drapery look. Our home had a built-in drapery pocket with fluorescent lighting behind it so it washes the wall with light if desired in the evening. Although skinny vertical blinds are very dated now, there is a fabulous option in wide...

BTW - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the sectional OK, my 2 cents worth: 1. Like Peterms idea about color. Maybe something fun and different like an asymmetrical grouping of Marimekko fabrics mounted and stretched on frames. 2. Totally agree with Redneck that the wood is beautiful, but since the wall is a backgro...

What has Hollywood done for the Modernist lately?

COLD…It’s a word that has been used to describe modern architecture and interiors ad nauseam. Turn on any HGTV show and hear the perky show hosts use that word with the proverbial curl of the lip, and scrunching of the nose. This one single word just erodes the very core of my being. There is su...

Thanks, N.U.Mod ! I was born in Akron, sixty-five years ago. Is it still there ? SDR That's interesting! I'll bet you've got some stories to tell! Yes, its still here with a very faint heartbeat since all of the industry has vacated. I have only been here 3 1/2 years. Came from the Wash Metro area ...

Yeah. You're probably right about it being a reach on my part. Probably just wishful thinking mostly. You know the old "if you say it enough times, you can make it be true" thing. :D I came from the Wash Metro area (McMansion Central) and now I live in Akron, OH where just viewing a modern...

Thanks so much for sharing that site! Very cool! I understand they are looking for writers and , I guess, people to rate products and come up with those innovative lists! Sounds like a good job for some of our Lotta Livin readers/contributors. There's not a more clever bunch on the planet IMHO!!

NEW AUDI A4 COMMERCIAL!!!

I absolutely love the new Audi A4 Commercial that I think debuted during the Super Bowl?? Not sure about that, but I'm talking about the old stodgy stuffy house that peels away to the open area modernist home and the Benz becomes an Audi. Does everyone know which one I am talking about? I love the f...

Women in Modernism

Hi, LLers, So happy to find this site. Sometimes I feel so alone where I live where modern is considered weird or radical. On this site I feel like I am HOME!! My degree is in architecture but I have shifted to product design of late. There seem to be very few women who have made their mark in the M...

Thrilled to be in the company of like-minded folk!!

Hi, my name is Karen Harris and new to the group. I have a degree in architecture and spent most of my career in Contract Interiors. Have been expanding my horizons to product design, though, most recently -- primarily in the home fashions arena. Find the articles and discussions on this site highly...
