The lights are all controlled by the same switch (there are 2) but the strips are either both on or both off. I have no idea about the measurements of the romex (is that the wire?) it comes out of the beam- I don't know the mechanics of how the fixtures are held up there- haven't gotten on a ladder ...

Oh- here are some pics of a fixture @ a friend's house- I think a similar suspended track could work for the upper fixture- there is definitely room for something to hang down a foot or more- http://lh5.ggpht.com/_4bPeylB8EK4/SoTYI7XdQvI/AAAAAAAADkg/9hxOiZ88Kx8/s720/IMG_8712.JPG http://lh6.ggpht.com...

rather than cherry picking a light here or there, let see the whole space and consider your entire lighting plan. it all needs to work together or you get a mish-mosh of stuff. Oh- do you mean the whole house? Shamefully I can't really say we have a plan... In the background of the one pic you can ...

I took the pictures like the day after Thanksgiving when my kitchen was still somewhat blown apart from hosting a big meal- sorry for the ceiling only shots- I will find some old "before" pics of the kitchen... We have replaced the dishwasher (broken) oven, stove w/ stainless, and put in a...

Those strips are the only lighting in the kitchen (minus the little light under the microwave, which hardly counts)- and w/ the wood ceilings lights are definitely needed. I turn on the current horrible lights when it's an overcast/gray day and always at night. Not having lighting isn't really an op...

Help needed with kitchen lighting- PIP

Our 1968 deckhouse still has the original light fixtures in the kitchen. Florescent strips w/ plastic diffusers- the diffusers are in awful shape, cracked, etc. and in the case of the upper fixture unusable, hence that strip of 2 florescent tubes is exposed- lovely! I have been searching for solutio...

Can anyone ID this dining set?

It's for sale on CL by me and I am tempted to get it just for the table (have brasilia chairs, but haven't gotten around to getting the table yet.) This could fit the bill- comes w/ the chairs and a sideboard, which I don't need, but could possibly unload myself. What do you think? The chairs are ra...

You posted the Saga chairs. The picture on http://www.brasiliaconnection.com home page is of the Brasillia line. The back of the chair is different. http://www.brasiliaconnection.com/images/homedimage1.jpg There are also one piece back brasilia chairs- they are shown on the brasilia connection page...

Difference between Broyhill Brasilia and Saga Chairs?

I have managed to collect a Brasilia buffet, china cabinet and what I thought were 4 "single" piece dining room chairs- now I have found an e-bay listing for what I thought were 4 more chairs and a table (with pads!) listed along with a Broyhill Saga china cabinet and buffet. After doing s...

Ok took some pics

Here are some pictures of the build-up and strange orange-ness on the chairs of the brasilia dining set I got. http://lh4.ggpht.com/_4bPeylB8EK4/SUw_BGubg9I/AAAAAAAACmc/Lt_k8vGr7n0/IMG_7826.JPG http://lh6.ggpht.com/_4bPeylB8EK4/SUw_Byia0yI/AAAAAAAACmk/3yDjAg6zNRY/s512/IMG_7827.JPG This chair is the ...

Thanks for the tips~

That is exactly what I was looking for in terms of how to approach these chairs. I broke out some "cabinet" cleaner that did a good job of getting the grime off our cabinets, but it didn't help the top of the chairs. I need to hit home depot and spend a saturday after the holidays cleaning...

Any suggestions on how to clean walnut furniture?

After much schlepping we are now the proud owners of a brasilia dining table and 4 chairs and a buffet- both off of craigslist- separate sales. The buffet is in fantastic condition. Table and chairs are OK- wood on the chairs is definitely a little grimy in spots and the tops of the backs of the cha...

Thanks for the feedback- I just wanted some opinions - for people to make me think about stuff I wouldn't have thought about. I wish we could do w/o a china cabinet, but we have limited dish storage in our kitchen (only 3 small upper cabinets) and I have 2 sets of dishes, a sterling tea set, glasswa...

Your entry light is Orifors crystal (sp). I have a vintage catalog at home. I'll double check when i get home. if that is true- that's great! I kinda doubt it though, unless that's what "came" with the deck house. The previous (only and original) owners didn't seem to put much into the ho...

55 views and no comments? This is on my local craigslist- asking price of $550- I got them down to $500- It's from the early 70's and what you can't really see in the pics is that there is chrome/metal trim going up the edges of the "legs" of the table... I am still debating on whether to ...

What do you think of this dining room set?

Found this on craigslist & I am going to check it out in person tonight- it's the table, 6 chairs (2 arm) and the china cabinet- which is 2 pieces and has lighting. Also the table has leaves and comes w/ the table pads. No brand or maker was listed... http://images.craigslist.org/1f91gb13c3n93k4...

Thank you everyone for the compliments! Our community has quite a few deck houses as well as a few other awesome MCM's- one that is going up for sale soon- an estate sale situation and it sat empty for a while, had some water damage and there are contractors working on it now making it saleable. Hello from a newbie

Hi- My husband and I bought a 1968 deck house in March and moved in with our now 9 month old daughter a few weeks after closing. Our house needs some work and between replacing things that need replacing and making furniture decisions I was hoping to find some good ideas and resources here. I would ...
