Online Archive of Vintage Television Commercials

Just found this site today.
Great collection of vintage TV ads.

Right now it is pouring down rain here in Yokohama. I have nothing better to do than housework and watching these old commercials.

Crazed Fruit

Thought I'd better mention it - 'Crazed Fruit' on TCM, this Monday at 2AM Eastern Standard (or, late, late tonight!) - I will stay tuned! This is a very good film. It was notorious in its day in Japan causing outrage among the establishment and housewives. It is the definitive "Taiyozoku"...

And within a week of the above mentioned: Karl Malden and Mollie Sugden (Mrs. Slocombe from Are You Being Served.)

The economy must really suck as the grim reaper is working over-time.

Re: comment regarding dining rooms

Regarding the comment about unusable dining rooms I never understood now why there is a 'formal' dining room and a breakfast room... home design is regressing to the victorian style. First it was the exterior with open/modern floor plans. now builders are out smarting themselves by reverting back t...

...It is also why all these houses have little unusable living rooms and in some cases dinning rooms. Folks with no imagination want rooms they can identify. And as many as possible. I have been in many a newer house that could actually hold a huge family at Christmas if the space was not all broke...

As we are talking about old shows; has anyone seen episodes of a show from 1960 or 1961 called "Hong Kong" staring Rod Taylor? Taylor played a foreign correspondent. I think it lasted only one season. There are copies of the show available on the grey market. I am wondering if the show its...

Johny Quest

Loved it as a kid, though I saw it in reruns; not the original broadcasts. I did not realize there were only 24 episodes ever made until I bought the DVD set. Posting this because this past weekend I had my co-workers (mostly Japanese) and their families over to my apartment. So, after eating, what ...

Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet

I’ve been picking up 16mm prints of the “Adventures of Ozzie & Harrietâ€￾ on e-bay from time to time, and truly love how many of these episodes still hold up today. Sure there’s some dogs (not all 435 could be winners), but when O&H fired on all cylinders, it’s nothing short of an A...

"do you know if the Cine Capri movie theatre at 24th and Camelback is still there?" Sadly, ESL, according to Cinema Treasures the Cine Capri was demolished. So sad. So much MCM (commercial) architecture in Phoenix is gone - to be replaced by drab, inoffensive (and therefore undesindguishe...

Favorite old shows that hold up and those that don't

Here's one that does not hold up: Quincy. The first season or two were good; but then it fell into a cliché of the disease/condition of the week. Typical dialogue went like this: (Quincy, upon being introduced to some specialist or someone who heads a foundation to cure some obscure medical conditi...

Hello

What a great site. I have had an interest in MCM architecture, furniture, etc. going back to my childhood where I grew-up in Phoenix(though I was born in Japan - father was in the Air Force) during the mid-sixties to mid-eighties. Phoenix was so ripe with examples of modernity. My interest in mid-ce...

Post war Japan

Hi, I have been lurking for a little while and your post caused me finally to join. I too am fascinated with Post War Japan. That time is usually referred to in Japan as the Showa era(although technically that era started before the war and ended in 1989 most people use it to refer to the late 40's ...
