that's why i don't live in the south. normal temps this part of the year is about 83 with 15% humidity. yesterday was 107 with 40% humidity. hahaha. I'm just the opposite. I lived in Illinois and Indiana for a while and I could barely breathe because the air didn't weigh enough. My skin was constan...

yeah, i didn't want a chair rail either. as i explained in my blog, there was paneling up to that point and a chair rail that really didn't make sense for the style of the house. to remove the paneling below the chair rail would have necessitated re-drywalling the the entire room. something we just ...

lightening the place up did wonders for all of the details not least of which the beams. unfortunately now i think i should strip the beams and stain them to match the chair rail. they almost seem to heavy now. think they need to be lightened up.

Dining room renovations

Finally got around to starting a blog about my home renovations. We started with the dining room. Not sure why we started there. Probably because, with the high ceilings and skylights, it's the most interesting room in the house. Anyway, check out the progress at... http://www.vthirteen.com/blog/ a ...

i wouldn't rule out moe. i recently bought the fixture below -- fiberglass top and bottom shade with a brass surrounded glass center on bottom -- and it is a moe. i love it. it is so much cooler than that ridiculous hunter ceiling fan that it replaced. (don't look at the floor. haven't gotten that f...

diy credenza article

About a month ago I came across an article somewhere (not here), seems like it was on a blog, with detailed instructions for building a really cool credenza outta 1" ply. anyone else read that -- know where I can find it. I'm scouring the internet for it and can't for the life of me remember wh...

i need some options for a flush mount ceiling light. my dilemma comes in the form of 7 ft ceilings (yes, 7') in my living room so the fixture needs to really hug the ceiling. the fixture that is in there currently really doesn't work. it is this thing... http://www.arcadianlighting.com/p3547-30trwb....

thanks for all of the great advice. we haven't decided on a "look" yet. we're leaning towards wood but that might be cost prohibitive. i'm kinda scared of what i might find when i remove the popcorn. the house was built in '63 and there are two skylights that have obvious water damage arou...

Popcorn Ceiling

I've been doing some research. Can't stand the popcorn ceiling in my house. The house was built in 1963. Is it possible that the popcorn is original to the house and if so does it contain asbestos? It's cracking and gross and I want it gone. Would like to replace it with wood. Read on another board ...

Who's the architect?

Been wondering who designed my house. It doesn't look anything like any of the other houses in my neighborhood and I'd really like to know who designed it. Wonder where a person would go to find something like that out?

Selig Z Chair

Just picked up the Selig Z Chair below at an antique shop where I live. I guess the owner of the shop didn't know what she had and to tell you the truth I didn't either. I just knew that I liked it and it had a Selig Denmark stamp on it. So, anyway I picked it up and I'm almost embarrassed to tell y...
