Anyone been to Palm Springs Alexander Week?

It so happens that I will be in PS the same weekend as Alexander week. I've never been on a house tour before so was wondering if the $85 price tag is justified? And are these types of tours usually walking or driving? And do you get to see interiors of the houses? There doesn't seem to be too many ...

Thanks for the tip about Virgin. I did end up getting a relatively cheap flight. I love flying Virgin airline whenever I can. I love the mod interiors. And thanks for deleting the duplicate post. I couldn't figure out how to do it since there was no option for that in "edit" section. Thank...

Visiting Toronto

I'm going to visit Toronto in 2 weeks. I used to live there but haven't been back in years. I now live in LA where amazing vintage items are pretty accessible. Are there any vintage/furniture/home decor stores I must check out in Toronto?

Thanks.

I'm always happy to see fellow Canadians who love MCM. I used to live in Toronto (Scarborough actually, but closer to Markham on the north end). I moved to LA a few years back to escape the snow. Just wanted to say that your house is awesome! I especially love the bar in the basement. If I was still...

How to make this room into a cool 50s martini lounge

Hi fellow LL members! In my new house, I have a freestanding structure in the front yard which used to be a garage. The previous owner built another garage and so this is now the "rumpus room" (apparently that's what people called it in the 60s). I've started to get some furniture into the...

My gosh egads! That's quite good! It is what you described exactly. Yes, the garage, storage area and the house are all connected by 2 doors. The laundry area is now in the garage. The seller installed a gas line for us so that we can have a gas dryer. There was an electric dryer there originally bu...

Thank you everyone for the kind comments. It has been a hectic first week a the house but well worth it. We are loving the house! I figured that the 2nd story addition would get commented on. The 1st owner of the house added a garage and added another story on top it. It is nice to have the extra sp...

Earthquake insurance & retrofitting

I was quoted $1000 annual premium with a 15% deductible. Or is anyone thinking about doing some earthquake retrofitting to their ...

Not sure if this would work but I met someone in the neighborhood yesterday who may want to sell her original garage doors. I have no experience with this so not sure if garage doors can be transplanted from one house to another.

Very nice! I hope my kitchen and living room will one day look like this after restoration. Sorry, this is a bit off topic but anyone know who to go to for the birch paneling like the one in this house? I'm not a DIY'er so I will need to have someone source the paneling and perform the installation....

I'm now deep in escrow on my dream MCM home. I can't wait to close escrow and post my pics here on the forum! I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Just had the inspection on monday and nothing significantly wrong except for an old water heater, furnance & electrical panel (but in working order). Sell...

Thanks everyone for all of the advice. I checked out 2 used appliances store today and was quoted $2000 and $4300 for a restored GE fridge. Is that expensive or reasonable? Vintage fridge

Hi everyone,

Anyone know where I can find a vintage fridge in Los Angeles area? I've searched Craigslit and the web and only found 2 stores in the LA area.

I've also looked at the Big Chill fridges. Really nice but also heart stopping expensive!

Thanks so much!
