This discussion reminds me of being on a MAK tour at Case Study house 22: http://www.stahlhouse.com/ Someone asked Mrs Stahl about bringing up kids right next to a steep cliff. She said "Oh we told them to stay away and they did." In fact her daughter and granddaughter were living with he...

I didn't mean to knock the product, it just looks solid if done right. I am just not that confident in my own skills as of yet. If it seems liek something that can easily be taken apart to clean out, I might try it tin the future. we get 3"-6" inches of snow here in a given night during a ...

Thanks Egads!

Funny thing is I have a rain gutter guy coming out Monday...I'll ask him about what he'd propose.

I have noticed so many eff-ed up DIY projects on this house already..it just drives me crazy how some folk don't think to much about design.

Better soffit for underside of balcony

Ok I have a balcony on the back of my house that has a grated soffit underneath it allowing water to drain directly onto my patio. It was put in my the previous homeowners. I personally hate this soffit design because all the water drains onto a space that could other wise provide some shelter from ...

it seems like on both houses they tried to make it more cookie cutter-ish, taking away the MCM feel.

The smaller's colors were better before IMHO.

I also hate that curvy trellis.

Compost Bins

I have a mound of mulched leaves in my backyard, which has no fences and backs up to a canal of the Detroit river (looks more like a creek). My property is about 0.5 acres with about 10 mature deciduous trees, so it makes a lot of possible compost material. I'd like to create a composting system so ...

As a transportation professional / planner, I can say that in most cases, we develop at least two unrealistic alternatives when planing for projects... usually a "do nothing option" and a "fiscally unconstrained option". My guess is that they really want to do something in the mi...

slider window drapes

I have slider windows that are obviously wider than they are tall. My wife has put up drapes in the kids' rooms (girls) with a white drape and colored drapes on the sides. We have cellular blinds in the windows which look great by themselves. I have expressed my desire to use the blinds only (mainta...
