There are earlier photos, from soon after the miniature golf course closed, in Tiki central, for a bit of history; I will be adding some more current color images. Here is the link: http://www.tikiroom.com/tikicentral/bb/viewtopic.php?topic=23980&forum=2&start=last&7 http://www.wideimagi...

Abandonded Tiki Miniature Golf Course in Los Angeles

Found a Tiki themed abandonded (for around 5 years) miniature golf course in the South Bay. Now serving as creative housing in Los Angles. With the Manhattan Beach Green line station and Northrop Grumman in the background, abandonded miniature golf course putting trap structures serve as a domiciles...

Thomas Lamb's 1929 movie palace: The RKO Keith's

Flushing New York, the most over developed community in the Nation, moves one step closer toward demolition and construction of a 357 rental unit apartment building. My little youtube statement created after sneaking in to photograph the auditorium closed to the public since 1986: http://www.youtube...

"You are in the Village"

I got to thinking about the late 60's Patrick McGoohan classic The Prisoner filmed in the Welsh village of Portmeirion, designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis around 1925-1931. There are a number of 'villages', that have been built in short order, where you wouldn't know where you are or wh...

Well I guess I should post this landmark preservation effort here also (from Midcentury musts for NYC ) If you head out to Flushing Meadows and Corona Park you will not be disapointed with the Unisphere from the 1964-65 World's Fair. There is also the Hall of Science: a rolled curtain wall of glass ...

If you head out to Flushing Meadows and Corona Park you will not be disapointed with the Unisphere from the 1964-65 World's Fair. There is also the Hall of Science: a rolled curtain wall of glass blocks, an aviary (formerly the Churchill Pavilion and a giant Buckminster Fuller dome), The Queens Muse...

The Marquee that outlasted the theatre, amazingly the flourescent bulbs and neon lights are still intact the rest has turned into a pigeon coop. The Wilshire in Santa Monica now an empty shell, August 2010. http://www.wideimaging.com/Los-Angeles/Los-Angeles-1/WilshireTheatre/1001692628_qeE4j-L.jpg

Queen Mary, Long Beach CA, August 1, 2010. They don't exactly invite you to tour closed parts of the ship under construction but I stumbled upon this upper deck cabin used for storage, with a large unexplained mother-daughter (I assume)glamor shot (very expensive at this size and now forgotten). htt...

I see you already have the La Cienega car wash; I took this shot in October 2007 because it reminded me of the needle beams Lev Zetlin used for the New York State pavilion in the 1964 World's Fair (still there and still the World's largest prestressed cable roof - AKA 'The Tent of Tomorrow') http://...

Yea Deanna I know I have posted numerous photos there as SWCphotography, that so many links don't work is a testament to how long this drama has dragged on. The argument that the only way to save a landmark is by condo conversion is one you see too often.

Thanks Vavala - I knew this was a United Bank once but found scant info online for the building or its original name. Becket did carry the circular theme to the lobby. The ceilings have a suspended waffle grid for services but not the precast shape for structure. Where can one see the "Modern C...

Seems to be typical: demolition by neglect, then offer to save the façade to develop condos. Posted a similar story in:

Sky View Parc (1,100 condos), Flushing Commons (600 condos) now gets a proposed 200 condo proposal (purchased for $20M in 6/2010 - the 3'rd developer in 26 years - while the property decays and nothing is done) to replace a Thomas Lamb landmark RKO Keith's Theatre ...

Welton Becket building with a view to LAX

9800 Sepulveda Blvd, now for sale at $20M. This 1964 building, borrows from the 1940 Palazzo della Civilta Italiana by Giovanni Guerrini, Ernesto Bruno La Padula and Mario Romano, that looks congruent with the 1939 New York World's Fair. It is ironic that Welton Becket would use this style while at ...
