So, the colored panels HAVE to have a name? Doesn't anyone know what they are called?

Thank you for the photo! I like the colors of your house a lot. It looks well done. So the door should be different than the main house color and the panels? I was thinking it should match the panels. It's the panels that really have me thrown for a loop. You know how sometimes you see a house and a...

The color simulator does seem like the colors are very vivid. I have been driving around and trying to look at houses but haven't had a lot of luck. We may have to go out of town for that. Those panels make it hard because I think of them as the accent color but they are pretty big so I don't want t...

Oh wow! I think you are absolutely right! I never noticed that before. I believe we have the original windows. As I said, we have been in touch with all 3 owners. I never heard anything about new windows and I don't see any indication of new windows. But, I will have to investigate that. Thank you f...

Thank you so much for your help! The house was originally stained. I wish it was still that way but somewhere along the line someone decided to paint it. We have been in communication with all 3 previous owners of the house which has been very nice. That is how we got the photo of the drawing. I did...

Please Help With My Exterior Paint Colors

I have an architect deigned mid-century modern house that was built in 1960. It is in need of an exterior paint job. Currently it looks like the photos below. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a336/alcompton/DSCN0458.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a336/alcompton/485615_10201256906165067_16612...

I don't think it is particularly rough. Of course it isn't as finished as it would be with a trim. I never even noticed it but my mom said she had noticed that it doesn't look finished. I don't think getting stain on the ceiling is a concern. They have done an excellent job so far and it doesn't see...

I do not know how to post a photo but we have a photo of the the architect's original drawing of our house which can be seen here. http://retroattic6969.blogspot.com/2013/06/no-more-imagining.html We also have some photos of news articles that ran across the country about our house when it was built...

Ceiling Trim Help

OK, I am coming to the experts again for advice. We have a mid-century house built in 1960 with a living room and guest room that are redwood paneled and have white ceiling tiles. The paneling has years and years of sun damage and was blonde washed (very poorly) at one time. We have found an excelle...

Thanks for all of your help! We definitely get snow and rain! We actually had quite a monumental storm in our area a few years ago. It is possible there is some residual damage from that. The doors are brand new! They were replaced in May by the previous owners. So, hopefully we can hang onto them f...

Thanks you so much for you input!!! Yes the flashing is the issue. The door to the house that can be seen behind the storage is wonky and has some issues which we now realize is probably also related to the water issue. We knew there was some leaking above the storage door but didn't think it was an...

Gutter Help For Flat Roof Carport

We have flat roof carport on our Mid-Century architect designed house. The roof is tar and gravel. It has been leaking and causing some problems with a shed door below. We had a roofer come by today to look at the situation. My husband spoke to him and I didn't. The roofer is planning to put a rubbe...

There are so many little things I would like to know more about that it's hard to find info on. I know the general attitude towards ceiling fans and pink bathrooms but is it blasphemy to replace my original (or close to it) thermostat with a programmable one? Stuff like that isn't quite as hot a top...

Thanks! I have been reading here off and on for years. I just never posted because I had no house to post about and was just learning. I wish there was a more active place to get information. Maybe things will pick up as the economy turns around. It is really hard to find mid-century mod specific in...

Thanks for all of the helpful advice! I always do trim free hand. Unfortunately I am very good at it. This means no one EVER wants to help me. I feel like I can do the best job without the tape and just doing free hand but it is so tedious and stressful! If anyone else would like to chime in with th...

Is there anyone who can provide any links to molding/ trim in mid-century homes. Google doesn't help much. If you go with trim that matches the walls what do you do about doorways when the paint colors aren't the same from room to room or hallway to room? Those doorways are killers to paint. My hous...

Ugh! I had a feeling that might be the consensus. I wish I would have come to this realization sooner. I think I have done well on the wall colors. I have a lot of beige. I used a California Paint historical sample to make my choices. The beige runs through the hallways, a family room and a dressing...

Thanks for your reply. Most of the trim except in the paneled rooms is NOT natural wood. I SOOOOO wish it was. Every other house I have lived in has had natural wood. This painting of the trim is a killer. I don't know who ever thought it was a good idea. In three bedrooms, a family room and two hal...

Molding & Trim In My 1960 House

Hello, I have been Googling looking for information on indoor molding and trim color for a 1960 home. I haven't really been able to find a lot of info. The conclusion I have come to is that it is more modern and contemporary to paint the trim the same color as the walls. My question.....Is white tri...
