We just bought a home in Altadena with those tiles sprinkled through the main bathroom. Unfortunately the shower/tub area is a mess and had to be redone. Does anyone know how to save the tiles during the demolition?

The wind in Palm Springs depends as much on the house as where you live. The Alexanders are oriented any which way whereas Meiselsmans are all oriented to the south with big overhanging roofs taking advantage of the low winter sun and shading from the high summer sun. The orientation also tends to b...

I think everybody is confused over the purpose of HGTV. It is not to showcase design so much as to sell products. HGTV purposely tells us it's about style but it's really about sales.

Wow! I've seen this building, it was on a tour a few years ago and I've fantasized about living in it. Yeah, the kitchen's small and Hyperion is noisy but the building has great spaces inside and private, walled patio gardens. For the price, it beats anything in the area and it's Ain at his best.

These are great houses! The reason they haven't sold is the price for the location. Yes the north end of Palm Springs is windier than the south but some people prefer the breezes and the winds to the extremely hot south end. Prices per square foot in the north have equaled or exceeded those in the s...

They did do a good job, in the sense that it looked good when it was done, which I agree is unusual for HGTV. However as a gardener, I was horrified that they ripped up so many beautiful mature plants to replace them with new trendier plants. It reminds me of how many MCM homes have been 'improved' ...

It does sound like Horsetail and it's reputation for invasiveness is well earned. Depending on your climate you might try Sanseveria (spelling?), also called Mother-in-law's tongue. It has a similar vertical look but a little lusher with varigated forms

Thanks for all info everyone - this board is such a great source when everyone else lets you down! I'm opting for the Eichler numbers, they look good and are cheaper than the Neutra look. I'll post some pictures soon. Thanks, again

MCM Address Markers

I'm having a hard time figuring out or finding an appropriate and attractive way to mark the address on my house. It's a 1959 Meiselman in Palm Springs. Anyone have any ideas or resources? Thanks!

I live a block over in another Meiselman and have been following the blog and saw the house when it went on the market. At $529 I think it's priced right with a little room for negotiating. Up the street one went for $575 a few months ago. As to the white ceilings, it's totally in line with the orig...

I can tell you how to solve this problem: loosen up! Relationships are about compromise, you get some things, she gets some things. You both win. As far as restoring the house, I don't understand all these redo's where everything is 1920, 1950 or 1960. Imagine if you bought a house now in 2004 and e...

Searching for Info on Meiselmans in Palm Springs

My partner and I just bought a Meiselman in Palm Springs. We're trying to find out as much as we can about Meiselman and his houses but while most mod commers seem to be aware of him and them, info is scarce. As noted in some of the posts, even the real estate agents don't know the difference betwee...
