Mason's Hall in Glendora, CA - just like 1959. Let's do the time warp all over again.

City Design Standards - good or bad for preservation

I hate design standards, but does that really make them bad for preservation. I am still thinking yes, as these so called city leaders pick out what they like best and say replicate... replicate... replicate...

Any thoughts out there?

Church lady said to VOTE

Don't forget to vote for the movie icon of all time - the United Methodist Church of La Verne, CA. Featured in the Graduate. and number of cheap, poorly made films. But the Graduate is in a team of its own. Built in 1961. I think it is Durell Stone, but what do I know?

Green roofs in L.A.

I think it would be great to organize a tour of green roofs in L.A. from the late 50's and 60's. Wilshire tower on Irolo off Wilshire would be one. Any others that anyone has any thoughts on? I am sure there is more than one.

Looks like the landscape installation market is picking up... finally! Not a flood by any means, so the homes sales probably flow with it. Better news for all! Stay tuned.

From the SGV

It looks flat all the way around... the same houses staying on the market again and again and day after day. A few interesting opportunities out there for fixer upper's.

Perhaps the ones that are selling are offering creative opportunities. What they are I don't know?

MCM Home Sales: Hot or Cold

How are MCM sales compared to traditional housing during what has been a really challenging time for home sales? Picking up, flat, everyone wants a new home for cheap? What's the beat on the street for MCM? Historic homes are for lookie loo's who want a peek only?

Just curious...

RIP John Hughes - director

Remember Ferris Bueller's Day Off... he put Mid Century Modern in Chicagoland on the map. You, too, can own the house at a cool $2.3 million. It does not include the 1961 Ferrari in the sale.

great site

I wanted so badly to see the Philip J. Glass House, as I live in one 2, that I rode with my friend who was moving from Oregon to New Canaan, CT. It was worth the journey. Saw of a few of these winners when we made it. This puts it into perspective.

Thanks for getting me out of bed and back to work!

Been a bit under the weather and some surgery, and finally able to at least get on-line. I never thought I would be unable for 3 weeks not to get on-line. South Pasadena - Smith & Williams, island in the sky

Nicely re-energized. I like the living room interior with the amazing vantage point and views to forever. The owner was going to do some renovation, but I said why not learn more about the architects. Hence, I think that it shows they got something good from it all. Plus you get some really great pl...

There was this one day... I was at band camp...

And surprising enough while I was at my meeting today I thought I was seeing things. Thanks to Nichols, I wasn't! It was a parade of Gary Baseman costumes being carted down Washington, and I now know why. It was pretty weird watching the parade go by on clothing racks and many heads with big eyes be...
