Atlanta, GA Beautiful, original condition!

Okay, the carpet has got to go, as does the wallpaper. But this house is incredible. It already says Pending Sale. Hopefully to someone who appreciates it. Because it is so close to Chastain and on such a big lot, I'm a little scared that someone will knock it down to build a McMansion. http://www.r...

I haven't been around for a while, so I missed your post. We redid our pool and decking in April. We went with a company a little cheaper than Alan Smith and I deeply regret it. Our pool plumbing is from 1967 and at no point did anyone suggest we replace the old 1 1/2" copper pipe with new 2&qu...

Thanks for your responses. I think I need one. I don't think I want to climb in my attic to install one in this weather. So, I need to either find someone willing to do it in this heat or make sure I keep up the resolve to buy one when it isn't so sweltering outside!

I know it's been a few years since you posted this, but I'm wondering what you did about the fan? Did you keep it? I'm thinking of installing one in the hallway ceiling in our house. Our situation is different because we have a flat roof and an attic. Although the weather is usually quite mild here ...

Somewhere I dug up that the house was last sold on 4/19/1973. I don't know the names of the seller or buyer. Did Albert (Van) Dekker's wife live in it after their divorce? L.A. County's online grantor/grantee search only goes back to 1997. I thought I also read somewhere that the man was in his 90's...

To all of you with babies, I say enjoy it while you can. Before you know it your children will be old enough to draw crazy pictures and tape them all over their walls. And of course they will need to keep all their "special" toys on top of every available surface. The spare, beautifully ap...

Atlanta, GA All original condition

Found this today. The house next door is listed as a rental for $12,000, which I thought was crazy. So, I went on zillow to snoop and found that this one was on sale. Hopefully with the real estate slow down this one won't be torn down to be replaced by a mini mansion. It has a big lot, a great elem...

I sold my soul to live here in the exurbs so that my daughters could get a decent "free" education, but I'm afraid that may be slipping away even here in Orange County. I figured it would all pay off when they got older and could attend some of the best public universities in the country, ...

Fabric on Demand is like Spoonflower, so they may be able to do it as well. I haven't tried them. I know they can center a design on one yard of fabric, but I don't know if they have the capacity to center a design on a piece larger than one yard. I believe they have a greater variety of fabrics tha...

Now that we have also been on the topic of metal roofs...I'm kind of looking forward to a rainy winter. I'm fascinated by the metal roof with the bonded solar panels.

Two years ago we were driving outside of Atlanta and saw tons of old barns that were falling down and returning to the dirt, with their standing seam metal roofs still intact.

I always heard it as, "It is better to plant a one dollar plant in a five dollar hole than a five dollar plant in a one dollar hole," but same idea. I also love a good shredded bark mulch here in southern California. It keeps the soil from drying out and improves the soil as it breaks down...

Sorry I was out of it for a while. Price-wise I don't think I 'd be much help. We have a flat roof with an ugly mansard. So when we had the roof done the flat part was torch-down, which I think is also called modified bitumen. Then the mansard around the house and garage was done in standing seam me...

From the picture the roof doesn't look hideous. Maybe some of the ugly details are lost in the photo. I cringe at the idea of replacing what is an extremely energy efficient roof with one that isn't. (Not to mention the fact that there is very little waste associated with a metal roof). We put a lig...

Not to keep bragging about my cat, who only seems to scratch the FLOR tiles, but he also loves cat beds. It's either a lap or a semi-hidden cat bed. Maybe it's because I tell the little girls to leave him alone if he's in "bed" so he embraces them as a way to get a break from all the love....
