Same thoughts here. From the limited photos, the "restoration" appears to be an uneasy mix of current design trends with classic post and beam rusticity. I don't like that shiny hanging fire-ball or those zebra-wood kitchen cabinets. I suspect it gets worse in the bathrooms...

They're probably trying to figure out how to expand this house in twenty directions. In that part of suburban New York, that one bath and those three little bedrooms wouldn't even properly house the help.

So is this good news? Will they be content with the original design of a 2 bedroom / 1 bath house? (I assume they will want to remove the awful 1960s addition?)

This price may have included the vacant lot next door which was also offered for sale. I think they were asking around $200,000 or so. Perhaps this is a "bargain" for a Lautner as the Carling house is now on the market for 3 million.

I had the pleasure of meeting the owner/realtor when he did a twilight open house last Saturday. He was most gracious in letting any and all callers spend as much time as they liked wandering the house. It's in sad but original shape and could be brought back with the proper funds. There are some gr...

There is no reason to put a trim in a flat ceiling room where wall meets ceiling. The rooms in your photos are typical and were obviously built without a trim and do not need one now. It appears that the paneled rooms with the sloping ceilings were also built without trim where wall meets ceiling. T...

Not sure why you want to replace (solid?) hardwood cabinets with IKEA particle board. Those IKEA cabinets may look good initially but they will wear horribly. There's a reason why they cost so little. Are you really going with that farmhouse basin sink? Those will be so dated in a few years. Stainle...

Another factor is the notion of owned or leased land. Many of the condos in Palm Springs do not own the land they are built upon and thus are subject to the changing terms of their leases upon renewal. When I was shopping, I was advised that purchasing in a complex that owns their own land is a much...

Is this the house Barbara Barry purchased and then proceeded to ruin because she thought it was too dark? Why on earth would one buy a brick and wood house and then complain about the materials? This was a simple, honest house which has since been white-washed into a shabby chic, faux-beach house.

Certainly an odd situation. The house went from one recluse to perhaps another. We drove by a few months ago and saw that little had changed, other than the fence and what appeared to be some half-hearted work. It seemed to us that someone was in the house. As we stood by the fence the sweetest guar...
