Re: Miracle Mile's "Pit" is finally seeing constru

Although the residents of the Miracle Mile may be glad to see the pit began a new life, one sad note was the loss of Coulter's original cornerstones which survived the building's demolition 25 years ago. These curved lengths of black, ribbed terra-cotta supported the base of Coulter's corner window...

This is a really good question. There are many themed environments that reek of exotica, most of which of recent birth--Good Luck, Bigfoot, Little Cave--but where are the bars that say "International Modern"? Or "Space Age Jet Set Lounge Meets That Late 60s Rococo Thing"? The Sta...

A word of warning to those who read the article: prepare for salty language. Thought I'd mention that for those who steer away from such. (Of course, I could be posting an article about coprophagia, and that's not a dirty word, is it? Anyway.) Glad they hit King Eddy's. Were I toodling these kids ar...

Drinking in LA

http://www.moderndrunkardmagazine.com/issues/10_06/10_06_lalaland.html Now, I for one have never had a bad night out (or day) drinking in this fair city. At least none that I remember. My litany of cicatrices might indicate otherwise. In any event, the bit about stumbling into the AA meeting is pret...

Every woman since has paled in comparison. ...

According to Speer's Theorie vom Ruinenwert , a structure should at least be passable as a ruin. I doubt this will fulfill even that minor stab at architectural necessity. We'll see, though, won't we? And note that it's surrounded by mature Canary Island date palms. Right. Those things are 20 grand ...

With a new project like that L.A. Most of my finds are pre-Modern; a 1909 Myer Art Lamp for 75, Faulkner first editions for a couple bucks, all sorts of 20s office equipment for next to nothing (when I lived in Madison, that stuff was everywhere ).
