Baldwin Village (The Jungle) - Googie PARADISE!!!

Googiesque on Flickr has the most terrific set of photos from Baldwin Village, which was one of the most fashionable apartment neighborhoods in the 1950's, with a huge concentration of Modern Apartment buildings in Los Angeles http://www.flickr.com/photos/92136363@N00/sets/72157594573064530/comments...

It may have been the Marmol Radziner...

There was a very nice marble topped dining set also from this same line. Modernica makes something similar, I think it was all from this line...

KEEP THE HARDWARE! Those are cool! If you want to polish them, they're more than likely lacquered, and the lacquer has failed. Soak them in stripper, which will remove the old lacquer. Then you can polish them, or use a fine steel wool to give them a satin finish, which might be nice (just be sure t...

Of course I don't mind your looking at my house! Thanks! Stan Chambers came out to Village Green a year or so ago, and talked about that day. He also brought footage shot throughout the dam break and after, it was just fascinating... The reservoir itself is now part of Kenneth Hahn park, unless you ...

Baldwin Hills Dam Break- Dec 14 1963 - 3D Kodachrome slides

I've just added some great images from the Baldwin Hills Dam Break, which took place on December 14, 1963. These are from a group of Kodachrome slides in 3-D taken by a Village Green resident at the time.

It's heartbreaking about the fountain and the plaza, it's such a joy to be there - I had six weeks of jury duty in November and December, it's a wonderful space.

I grew up in Sacramento and spent many a happy hour at the Crest! They were both 20th Century Fox run theatres, and they both opened in 1949, which might explain why they are both nearly the same, especially the interiors. I've never seen the Fresno theatre, but those pictures show nearly identical ...

I looked at a couple of units in this building. It's a co-op, rather than a condo. It's much more difficult to get financing for a co-op, therefore it is usually less expensive. You also have to pass the Board of Director's inspection and approval process. The lobby is nice, the hallways less nice. ...
