Yucca Valley, CA - New modern house

Saw this house today and it's really nice! Built in 2007, very "green" and with large bright rooms. http://medialaxg.rapmls.com/desertareamls/listingpics/tmbphoto/052/41313152.jpg?tsp=20071206095325 Here's the listing - not mine, unfortunately! http://desertareamls.rapmls.com/scripts/mgrqi...

Frank Sinatra commissioned a house by E. Stewart Williams in 1946. Later he moved into a Bill Cody on Thunderbird Country Club. And a short time later moved to a non-architectural house on Tamarisk Country Club. Gary Cooper had a fantastic house by A. Quincy Jones on Baroda in Bel Air, just north of...

Haven't seen their Neutra, but they did a great job on their Lautner!

But I still think, given Pomona's past history, it's going to be hard to get people to donate to Pomona.

I met the new owners last weekend at the Motel. They have wisely decided to do what others here have suggested to new owners of houses in the past - live with it for a while before doing things. Sounds like they want to fix it up and, of course, build a pool next door. Keeping it as their weekend pa...

It's a nice little documentary, not a heavy one, but a very personal one focusing on specific projects. They had a screening here today at the Palm Springs Art Museum. Great attendance and well received. The DVD includes extra material not shown today, so am looking forward to seeing the entire DVD....

It's a really great show! It's organized in clusters by architect so you can see a great variety of work. Also, besides the fantastic photography by Uncle Julius, it includes architctural drawings, renderings, and models.

Try to see it before it moves on!

I don't think people are going to donate to the upkeep or rennovation of a house unless there is a responsible owner. And I doubt that anyone would consider Cal Poly Pomona to be responsible. I wonder, are there any succcessful examples of a school or university owning an architectural house? Tony

Or maybe it could be moved again, having been moved to its present location. Really sad looking, at least from the exterior. But there aren't all that many Neutra's, so I hope a good owner will fix it up. And even a poorly maintained one can come back - for example the Grace Lewis Miller House in Pa...

There was an interesting case about this when an environmentalist, who photographs the California coast line from helicopter, was sued by Barbara Strisand for including her house. Not only was the case dismissed, but Strisand was forced to pay the environmentalist's attorney's fees: http://www.calif...

The Lautner Motel has been in escrow for some time now. Not sure if it will close. One difficulty is in comparables. It looks like in Desert Hot Springs that only one triplex has sold in the last 6 months. So that's about the only thing they can compare it too. And, of course, it's no comparison. Tony
