As someone once said "just because you are paranoid, it doesn't mean someone isn't after you". That being said, I've never had a single instance when a building department person expressed any interest in why I was looking at a permit. I've looked at hundreds, if not a thousand permits. In...

Stephen, I wouldn't be worried about the building department. They don't care why someone is looking at the permits - it won't raise any red flag. Obviously, though, one wouldn't say "I want to look at the permits for this house to see if the repiping was done with permits". Just look and ...

scowsa, Oh, I forgot about that museum - it's great! Haven't been there in years. I really liked the work of Doc Atomic they had there. Although I'm not sure he still can be catagorized as an Outsider Artist anymore. http://www.docatomic.com/gearhead_gearside_op_600x800.jpg Tony

And it's always best to get a home inspection! Who knows what else might be wrong? Remember that while buying at auction may save you a considerable sum of money, there is risk involved. The bank is in a position where they can sell the property "as is", whereas a conventional seller must ...

I'm very much looking forward to see the house sometime in the future if it's ever open for that. I saw it when Lionel March owned it and it looked rather good then. Last summer I organized an architecture tour of Silverlake for the Palm Springs Art Museum. We visited the Harwell Hamilton Harris Haw...

I was in DC years ago so my memories are hazy. See the Vietnam Veterens Memorial: http://thewall-usa.com/buttons/tommycanuhearme.jpg And go to the National Building Museum: http://www.nbm.org/ And I highly reccomend driving around and visiting the nearby Civil War battlefields. Tony

Haven't seen it since before Sasoon bought it. At that time it was in almost perfect original condition.

I've heard that it's more like a meticulous remodel.

Miguel,

That particular house was Bob Alexander's own house. He lived there before building his "house of tomorrow".

Is it 60hz or 50hz? If it's 60hz a standard step-up transformer should work. But if it's 50hz you are probably out of luck.

I may be confused about the exact building, but I remember a cool Lloyd Wright retail buiding to the east of Barnies on the north side of Santa Monica Blvd.

And yes, the Lloyd Wright House & Studio is on Doheny. It's really great. Haven't been inside that one in a few years.

Hi Paul, Can’t say that I’m too optimistic of that working out. If we couldn’t get four people, or four couples, to do the Lautner Motel, I don’t see how you could find 16 people. I seem to remember, although this goes back a few years, that Kent – the previous owner of the Del Marcos – ...
