Nice story, but to nitpick...it's about Googie and not Johnies specifically, and so could have been written BEFORE the Oct. 2 Curating Wilshire event (instead of 18 days AFTER), and publicized the one-time opportunity for the public to visit Johnies and meet Davis and Hess. (The event did not sell o...

Kwik Way drive-thru in the Grand Lake area in Oakland. The community kept a McDonalds from replacing it, so you know, it's got some serious googie juice. Funny how good ideas seem like no-brainers after someone suggests them... There's got to be a better way to contact these stars than adding another piece of snail mail to their bags of fan mail. Like getting Diane Keaton or some other preservation-literate actor involved first, to then make the cont...

Googie near LAX, CA?

Does anyone have any info on this nice old googie at 5862 Arbor Vitae (east of Airport Blvd., north of Century Blvd.), near LAX? It's currently closed and looks like it has been heavily remodeled, but there is still a good googie roof line. Was this a Denny's or something?

The theater, at least in that picture, appears completely dwarfed by that billboard. Getting rid of that should be high on the agenda, if they're really serious about "improvement" and "revitalization" etc..

There's a boarded up A-Frame just east of the 101 Freeway in the Cahuenga Pass (Hollywood). Anyone know anything about this?

Tiny Naylor's, Beverly Hills, CA, now "The Lodge"

A new "hipster steakhouse" has opened in this old Googie coffee shop. It is reviewed in today's Los Angeles Times Weekend section.

Would a screening of "Miracle Mile" somewhere (maybe the El Rey, or the Four Star) be too much of a downer?

"Finkbiner Market was owned for decades by former Mayor Joe Finkbiner. Finkbiner was elected to the Glendora City Council in 1960 and became mayor in 1964, a post he held for an unprecedented 16 years. He retired from the grocery business around 1960 and died of cancer in January 1987. The market's ...

Modern fan's legal rights when out in the field?

When we're out and about worshipping a googie, A-frame, zig-zag, dingbat, or whatever, and maybe snapping a photo or two (for not-for-profit, personal use of course), and we encounter a property owner who may not appreciate our particular religious persuasion and who may even ask us to cease and lea...

I went by this great A-Frame in Downey today, and was surprised to find it still standing (though with a new name, since I was there years ago). Do you know the price? The black and gold at 3rd and Western is also for sale (don't know how much). Might as well buy both, since the Richfield isn't likely to go on the market...

What other black and golds are there around town?
