Johnie's Broiler/Harvey's Broiler/Bob's Big Boy Broiler

I just saw on Fox 11 KTTV's 10 p.m. news a story on Johnny's and evidently they just went ahead and continued tearing down most of what was left without pulling any demo permits. It did look like the signage was still somewhat intact. What a shame. http://www.seeing-stars.com/Images/Slides/JohnniesB...

Cool. My parents were taking me there in the late 60s. The mini-golf course was on the north side of Valley. THey also had one of those giant slides at the mini golf place. I am not sure, but it may have been closed by the time we moved in '72. Here is a pic of me driving the weird little go-kart th...

Does anyone remember this place?

When I was a boy, living in La Puente, there was a place called "Humpty Dumpty Kiddyland". It was near the corner of Hacienda and Valley Blvds. There was a miniature golf place across the street that had one of those big dudes hold a gold club out front. Anyway it was a little carnival typ...

That's great! I always liked that sculpture and was fortunate enough to hear music playing from it a couple times in the 80s. I remember when it was on the cover of the Yellow Pages back in 1975.

I remember the Star theater from when I was a kid living in La Puente. My dad took me there to see "On Any Sunday" back around 1971. It was later a porn theater and then was showing hispanic films I think. The building always reminded me of a quonset hut, but the front signage is pretty co...

I was at the L.A. Zoo a couple weeks ago and they still have these there. They also used to be up at the Observatory, but probably are not now. The last time I was at Travel Town I bought one of a train. I wonder if that one is still there? Cool, glad the zoo is still operating some. How long ago d...

The Lucky Strike at the Del Amo is open now, but it only has like 9 lanes and I doubt that leagues would ever play there, but the P.V. Bowl never seems to be very busy and I would not be surprised if it closed.
I better get over there with the trusty digital camera before it's too late.

Some Desert Modern photos I recently took have been added to my website. I was out there a couple weeks ago. Love the Elecetric Company, Letterman reference!
For a long time it seemed like all the Bob's Big Boys were dissappearing and now they seem to be on the rise again. They opened one in Torrance on Hawthorne not too long ago. The Bun Boy sign is classic though.
