By the way, Ikea also has a free download kitchen designer. It only uses their products but includes pricing. http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_GB/rooms_ideas/kitchen/download.html Their AKURUM series looks kind of nice on the web, I'm going to look in store to see if the quality comes anywhere near the pho...

If anyone has any suggestions for a reasonable custom cabinet vendor in In LA who can do euro-style cabinets we would really appreciate it. Hopefully because the Kitchen is so small we will be able to do custom and not break our budget. Fingers crossed. I don't know about breaking the budget yet bu...

Re: Nice european style cabinets

VENICIA I looked at them at Lowes last year and again last weekend at Expo. They look great new but since they are "thermofoil" (coated particle board), I'm concerned about durability. The salesman at Lowes said they scratch easily and also the finish cracks if something hits them (his ex...

Hollywood Hills/Studio City, CA - Buff, Straub, & Hensma

Halverson #1 (3584 Multiview Drive) is back on the market for 1.44 million. It was designed by Buff, Straub, & Hensman, built in 1959 and located next door to Schindler's Kallis House. I didn't see it last year when it was on the market but someone at the open house said it was then in nearly or...

For example, Brad Pitt earned $20,000,000 and Angelina Jolie got $10,000,000 for Mr. and Mrs. Smith, not even a year's worth of work. One gig and they are nearly at asking price. How do you really rationally determine a sense of value in the face of such salaries and such real estate? We can't. We ...

Let's see who's correct over or underpriced? Let's look at this discussion a year from and see if it's still 'on the market' with 'reduced price' or 'priced to sell' in the ad blurb or find in the LA Times under that stars homes or whatever it is that Cox just sold it to.....etc. above the asking p...

No matter, this only further corroborates the fact that this house's asking price is overpriced by at least $10M... Not if you look at the actual price trends . If the median prices in Malibu (or Los Angeles County for that matter) are 300% higher than 7 years ago, why should this homeowner down pr...

Re: Malibu, CA - Lautner's Segal house on the market

Note: this house is completely original, hasn't bee altered/touched since it was built, but very well maintained. One of the links in this thread list the house as "extensively renovated". I believe the Cox-Arquettes did a "thoughtful restoration" but I do not believe it is &quo...

Neutra's "Casa Shinoda" in Santa Barbara?

Does anyone know anything about a Neutra named "Casa Shinoda" that was supposedly located at 1124 Camino Del Rio in Santa Barbara? Spent the day looking for various houses in SB and that address has what appears to be a recently built home. Was Shinoda torn down or did I have a wrong addre...

I've seen the Navarro house on its bi-level sliver of a site; the painted/patinated sheet metal work is even more fun, in a hand-made sort of way, in the flesh. That little flattened copper hip roof at the upper entrance shelters some interesting glazing, as I recall. Samuel Navarro is probably my ...

I wonder who bought it. When I first heard about it in August, I immediately thought Kelly Lynch & Mitch Glazer (owners of Lautner's Harvey House in Los Feliz) should buy it and adapt as a wet bar.

Could "Lippincott" be Roy Alstan Lippincott? One of his best known works is in New Zealand, the clock tower building at Auckland University.

FYI, Gordon Kaufmann also did "Greystone" in Beverly Hills in the 20s. It was the home (and double murder/suicide site) of Edward L. Doheny Jr. When it was built it was reportedly the 2nd largest home in California (Hearst Castle being the largest). If memory serves, it is 46,000 s.f., wit...

Interesting because the plans in the Architectural Drawings book give the address of this project at 830 Laguna. Also the garage appears to be a different design. At any rate, a very early commission in 1922. Did Ms. Lacey own all three lots - 828, 830 and 832? Didn't see anything else for Lacey on...

It will be interesting to see what the Academy's plans are. I'm sure part of the decision of the site has to do with them already owning 1313 N. Vine which takes up most of the adjacent block from Fountain to Homewood. That building was built in 1948 as a radio and television studio. The Academy has...
