People have different priorities. One of our first projects was installing closet systems, and yes, new closet doors in our house. Why? Because I can't stand clutter or household items (cleansers, coats, etc.) being out in the open. Plus, if the closet doors turn out to be all wrong, it's not a trav...

Indianapolis, IN--1960 MCM

This house is in a great setting and is an interesting design. They're asking $390,000. We went to the open house and really liked the house. Unfortunately, some of the newer finishes--such as laminate floors--didn't do it justice. Fortunately, their weren't too many of these updates. http://idx.mib...

I love seeing the incomparable Wolff house so well presented, but reret slightly the choice of "cold classics" like the Mies pieces; for Lautner's work in this romantic/organic vein I'd prefer some classics from the Scandinavian makers -- Wegner's wood and rush or cord pieces, for instanc...

I think I am with the program now! We are still waiting for post and beam construction to make it to the midwest! If the hinges are mounted to the outside of the post, scowsa had the answer. I think what is going to happen though, is once you rotate the door slightly so that the top is level, you wi...

hahahahahaha Thanks Joe-but you need some kind of baseline! Maybe I should have started like this---Step 1: Level house... Actually, Sienna, in looking at your pictures again, you say: A closer look, notice the gap at the top getting larger towards the left. (the redwood you see in the gap is the f...

Thanks for the information! We just ordered some samples. Flor is kind of expensive, but we need an area rug in the tv/rabbit room. With two not-so-tidy adults and five very messy rabbits, we need something that's easy to clean.

Assuming the door frame is square, and the door itself is square, and the top hinge is tightly fastened, try removing the bottom hinge and inserting a thin piece of cardboard between the hinge and the door frame before you reinstall the hinge. This will slightly rotate the door clockwise (from the i...

The Social Security death index lists only one Herbert Kleinmeyer, who died in 1998 in Williamburg, Iowa. Hi, Well, we requested a copy of Mr. Kleinmeyer's obituary. Unless "our" architect later became a farm hand and truck driver, this Herbert Kleinmeyer isn't the one. It's a little disa...

We now live in our dream mid-century modern house in Noblesville. I saw some pictures of your house that you had previously posted. Great house! I love the original interior. I was pleasantly suprised that it's in Noblesville. Unfortunately, Noblesville--like Carmel and Fishers--seems to be increas...

Two movies w/ MCM houses

Has anyone see No Down Payment or The Anniversary Party ? They both feature great houses. No Down Payment was made in the late '50s, I believe, and starred Joanne Woodward and Tony Randall. The Anniversary Party starred Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kevin Kline and many others. I think they're both good mov...

I don't know if the crown moulding was original. It's no longer there. The planter was actually plumbed, to allow for easy watering. Unfortunately, it leaked. There's still a planter in the living room, but it's no longer hooked up to plumbing. I don't think we'll put plants up there since it's up p...

Researching an Architect

My husband and I just bought a fabulous MCM house in Indianapolis. We believe the architect was Herbert Kleinmeyer, and rumor has it, he studied under Frank Lloyd Wright. Unfortunately, we can't find any information about Mr. Kleinmeyer. Has anyone ever heard of him?
